I came across this delightful article on Ford's Happy Seat. It's a seat for assembly line workers to sit on that allows them to move into the car and perform there work without bending or twisting or getting into some other compromising position. So here's an ergonomic chair for you that is showing how ergonomics benefits the worker and the employer at the same time.

Is it possible to make an ergonomic chair without all sorts of clever mechanisms and new age fabrics. I hate to break the suspense, but yes it is. The Tip Ton, by Vitra, is a well designed, "simple" ergonomic chair. There are no levers to adjust you only have to lean forward or back and you have good support underneath you. I'd love to see more ergonomic design like this and maybe we wouldn't have to constantly debate how much ergonomic furniture costs.

We've been discussing ergonomics and the cost for businesses a lot lately. It's at the forefront of legislative issues in Michigan and elsewhere and seems to be in the cross hairs of many companies trying to use the current economic situation as a reason for reducing expenditures. Here's an article from the Calgary Sun, Are You Sitting Down Yet?, that brings up an interesting point in the debate.
Why does ergonomic furniture cost so much? Maybe it's as simple as an old fashion ripoff.

Irwin has introduced a new hand saw, the 15" Irwin Universal Handsaw. They claim that it cuts three times faster than a traditional handsaw thanks to the special grind of the teeth and the improved ergonomics of the handle to blade design. If you're in the market for a handsaw you can check it out at your local home or hardware store.
