Interview Questions About Yourself

Monday May 9, 2011

InterviewWhen an interviewer ask questions about you they are trying to determine how good a fit you are for the company. Is your personality a match for the company culture? Are your goals and expectations a match for what your role in the company will be if you're hired? How will you fit in with the current team?

The best way to answer interview questions about yourself is to be honest. You are who you are. Trying to present yourself as someone you're not may help you get a job offer. However, you need to consider whether the job would work out if it's not a match for what you're seeking in your next position and your next employer.

Here are common interview questions you'll be asked, sample answers, and tips for the best way to respond to interview questions about yourself.

How to Say Goodbye to Co-Workers

Monday May 9, 2011

You have found a new job and you're ready to give two weeks notice to your current employer. Or, you've lost your job. What's the best way to say goodbye? First things, first. Regardless of the circumstances of your leaving, if you are about to resign, your first responsibility is to let your employer know that you are resigning. You need to part on good terms and you don't want your boss hearing rumors of your departure through the grapevine.

The next step is to say farewell to co-workers and to let them know that you are moving on to a new position, starting a job search, retiring, or doing something else with your life.

Here's how to say goodbye diplomatically and without burning any bridges, include what to say, how to say it, and how to send a goodbye note.

Resume Writing Basics

Resume Writing

A job seeker sent me a resume the other day that made me cringe. There were lots of colored fonts of varying sizes and types.  At first glance, it looked confusing. At second glance, it looked worse.

You might think you'll impress a hiring manger by having a resume that stands out from the job search crowd, but it doesn't usually work that way.

Employers usually only spend 30 seconds or so reviewing each resume. So,  they need to be able to see (as does recruiting management software) at glance why you're qualified.

It can be helpful to review resume writing basics to be sure your resume includes everything relevant to the job you're applying for - and that it looks good.  Keeping it simple is a good strategy.
