BritWeek LA and Royal Wedding Fever

Friday April 29, 2011

The Royal Wedding and Brit Week LA

Royal Fever has reached its peak--as Angelenos who stayed up late to watch the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton can attest to.

You may not be able to party in the streets of London today. But there are other ways you can celebrate the joyous occasion while in Los Angeles.

BritWeek is an annual event that celebrates British contributions to LA. It just happens that it is currently taking place, running through May 11th.

The multi-site spectacular consists of citywide art, fashion, music and culture parties, exhibits and social gatherings--all connecting Britain to LA. See BritWeek events for more info.

And if you're just an old softy, and weddings (regal or otherwise) make your heart swell with love, why not take your sweetheart or best friend(s) to one of the moody, romantic restaurants in LA?

Open House and Artists Spaces at Beacon Arts Building

Tuesday April 26, 2011

Beacon Arts Studios Spaces in Inglewood for Artists in Los Angeles

With so many creative people in one town, it's no wonder I keep hearing about artist friends and friends of friends setting up their ateliers at studios all over LA.

Everyone is looking for the next cool location and a cheap space, and many are drawn to ateliers within a friendly and interactive community of artists.

If you're on the hunt for your art studio, consider popping by the Beacon Arts Building in Inglewood this Thursday.

The relatively new space will be hosting an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. It's not far from Otis and Loyola Marymount so it boasts some nice adjacent creative and experimental vibes.

Lastly, starving artists, fret not, food and drinks will be provided by Literati Bar & Grill.

Cross-Country Cab From NYC Arrives in LA

Monday April 25, 2011

Text Message for a Taxi With GoFastCab LA

Is this a totally LA story or a New York story? You be the judge. Over the weekend, a taxi hailed by two passengers in New York City arrived at its final destination: Los Angeles.

For anyone who's ever gotten in a cab (in LA, NY or elsewhere) and felt the tension of the meter ticking, that's nothing compared to what the folks who hailed this cab must have experienced. The ultimate fare tally was $5,000.

The idea for the six-day mega-trek was hatched on a birthday by the two guys (respectively from Queens and New Jersey) who procured the taxi said The Huffington Post.

The adventurous trio (cabbie Mohammed Alam of course included) even made the requisite pit-stop in Vegas.

Too bad it wasn't the Cash Cab!
