Alex Burrows' Overtime Goal Puts Canucks Up 2-0 (VIDEO)

Alex Burrows Overtime Goal

First Posted: 06/ 4/11 11:46 PM ET Updated: 06/ 5/11 07:07 AM ET

Alex Burrows scored 11 seconds into overtime to put the Canucks up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals, now headed to Boston. (Scroll down for video.)

There was some question before the game if Burrows would even play, but the NHL decided against a suspension after he allegedly bit Patrice Bergeron in Game 1.

Burrows faked a shot on Tim Thomas and maneuvered a wraparound for the goal, getting around Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara and sliding the puck into an empty net.

The Canucks also won Game 1 in dramatic fashion, scoring with 18 seconds left in regulation.

Some people thought Timmy was leaving the ice quickly after the game, 'cause he was upset over the OT, 11 sec., goal. Not so. He just over-shot his recovery!

As usual, as I am prone to do with most Finals' games, in any sport,, I watched the last 5 minutes of regulation and barely settled myself in for the OT, when the game winner materialized. Congrats to the Canucks! Brooks was awesome.

Based on your expertise or based on that of experienced hockey officials trained to review game video and apply the rules?

Yeah, they've done such a great job over the years.

The little femme bit another player. That's astounding cowardice and poor sportsmanship. Should have been suspended AT LEAST one game.

Tim Thomas definately over commited on that one. It is starting to look less and less like Boston will be able to take even one and I am not just talking about mathmatically. I have been cheering for them but would be okay with Van taking the cup. That being said I secretly hope they do not win at home as SOME of the fans there really irk me. Anyone who finds it acceptable to take a pictures of an opposing players wife and put your team jersey on it, no matter how famous she may be, is absolutely classless in my book and does not deserve the awesomeness of witnessing a cup win at home. I am surprised they havn't taken a photo of Patches in a strecher and waved it around in front of Chara yet.

Also, before some over zealous Canucks fan calls me a crybaby, Vancouver has spent the last two years crying in the media about how it was anyone's fault but there own that they lost to Chicago in the playoffs so give it a rest calling other teams whiners. Vancouver are very well documented as whining and crying in the media and there is plenty of video to prove it.

What Vancouver fans have been crying about it not being the Canucks fault for losing to Chicago? I've been a Canucks fan my whole life and I blame Vigneault (the coach) for both those series losses. When his team has a lead in an important game, Vigneault calls for a "trap" style defense which the Canucks are not good at. Once the defensive trap is called, the Canucks usually proceed to let the other team have far too many shots - with a team as good as Chicago, you cannot get away with that.

Most of the Canucks fans I know blame the Canucks for those series losses. Of course, for fun, we also like to blame Bettman who seems to have a hate on for Canadian teams.

Don't get too discouraged on the Bruins just yet. Timmy has been known to bounce back after a bad loss. And this isn't the first time we have been down 2-0.
GO BRUINS!

It belongs with the teams that can win four games in the final series. So in 2005 it didn't belong anywhere.

F and F. Thanks for the early morning chuckles. Thomas is a great goalie but he has to be rattled when his "wandering ways" created the chance for a "heads up" Burrows.

Vancouver scores 3 goal. Burrows assists on one and scores the other two. Now Boston knows what a Burrow's bite really feels like!

Sorry Snerd, not sure I catch the curling reference. Unless you think Thomas had a hip flask tucked into his uniform; then he'd have been curling.

It was in reference to the form curler take outta the hack, sliding along the ice, as they deliver a rock ...
