Armin Vit on Stupidity

“One is considered stupid until proven creative.” Armin Vit presents the case for stupidity. Instead of avoiding the stupid, we should embrace it, chase it and execute stupid ideas as often as possible.

Pay Attention

“Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager.”
- Susan Sontag

Jessi Arrington: Wearing Nothing New

I am beyond excited to share this amazing TED talk by my wonderful studiomate Jessi Arrington. And yes, Jessi is as bubbly and wonderful in real life. She is currently traveling and I can’t believe I can’t hug her right now! This is sooo huge that her talk is up on TED. Wheeee! (I am about to burst.)

Designer Jessi Arrington packed nothing for TED but 7 pairs of undies, buying the rest of her clothes in thrift stores around LA. It’s a meditation on conscious consumption — wrapped in a rainbow of color and creativity.

A Book Apart Story

Mailchimp came to our studio the other day to interview my studiomates Mandy, Erin and Jason for their Customer Stories series. Here’s the loveley result introducing us to the world of A Book Apart:

Red Pop

Now here’s another Kickstarter Project that made me look. Red Pop is a big red camera button that you add to your iPhone 4 – it turns your iPhone into a ‘proper’ camera and helps lessen the game of ‘find the fire button’ when you want to take pictures on your iPhone. Definitely a great idea! More info at red-pop.com

(While I like the product Idea, the video is quite tame compared to the Freaker I posted yesterday)

(thank you Kate)

Rainbow Panorama

Olafur Eliasson’s Rainbow Panorama Installation makes me want to book a flight to Denmark asap. RAINBOWTASTIC, as my color-loving studiomate Jessi would say!

CreativeMornings Video: Christoph Niemann

Our speaker at the April 2011 CreativeMornings/NewYork was Berlin based Illustrator and Designer Christoph Niemann. I think it’s safe to say that Christoph’s talk was one of the funniest we’ve ever had. See for yourself, watch the video below and share a giggle.

A big giant thank you to Sy Abudu for so generously filming and editing our talks. (We realize the sound quality is a little off in the beginning but gets better mid-way through the talk. Our apologies!)

The event was generously hosted by Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

CreativeMornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types. Each event is free of charge, and includes a 20 minute talk, plus coffee!

Robole

I know, I know, I might as well just start a blog dedicated to just robots… But bear with me, and check out Robole. What an amazing toy. The possibilities are endless as all the pieces connect via magnets. I am giddy over this and Robole just jumped on the very top of my #wishlist. Now if only I spoke Polish.

Freaker USA

This Kickstarter video made me laugh. And yes, I am totally backing Freaker!

Vintage Radio

I have just fallen in love with this vintage red radio over on Krrb.

(by posting it I feel like I own it a bit. #postingisthenewbuying)

Napkin Tie

These napkin ties make me want to be a man. (I know, I know I could wear a tie even as a woman…)

Modern World Map Print

I am tempted to buy this giant world map to keep track of all the CreativeMornings chapters that are going to launch over the course of the next few months. It’s a hand-pulled silkscreen print by iscreenyouscreen on Etsy. Pretty!

Robot Stencil Kit

This Robot Stencil Kit looks like so much fun. Yay for robots!

Curiosity

“Our number-one value isn’t in any of the skills we have. It’s that we’re essentially curious.”
- Jim Coudal

City Boy Picnic Grill

Now this is a beauty of a portable grill. Not sure about its overall usability, but it sure looks designy. The City Boy Picnic Grill was designed by Klaus Aalto.

Hidden

Imagine an app that let’s you spy on the person that might have stolen your laptop. It’s called Hidden. If your computer is stolen, Hidden will show you where it is and who has it. When you activate tracking, Hidden will locate your stolen computer anywhere on the planet, collect photos of the thief and screen shots of the computer in use.

One Hidden user started a Tumblr Blog with the images the app was able to collect. Slightly awkward to look at the person who is using your computer.

(thank you Jessi)

Picnic Tumblers

Look! Rainbow colored Tumblrs! They come in 6 different colors and are made of durable, break-resistant melamine.

EasySign Mobile

Did you ever have to sign a document but didn’t have a printer nearby? I did.

Overall, signing documents in this digital world is a cumbersome process. Print, sign, scan, email. EasySign is solving this problem. I am sold.

The Oona

This iPhone accessory called Oona made me look. (Watch the below video.)

Until June 3rd you can fund the Oona Kickstarter project for $25 and they will send you an Oona once production has begun. After the fund date an Oona can be purchased for $30. (I absolutely love the idea of putting the iphone on a rotating eggtimer to take panorama shots.)

Plutchik Emotion Circumplex

I agree with Luc Latulippe, this Emotion Circumplex by Plutchik is mesmerizing. Plutchik first proposed his cone-shaped model (3D) or the wheel model (2D) in 1980 to describe how emotions were related.

Read more about his theory of emotion over on Wikipedia.

Heath House Numbers

Heath Ceramics and House Industries teamed up and created Heath House Numbers, 3-dimensionals clay tiles. The tiles celebrate the legendary Neutra and Eames Number Fonts. Aren’t they beautiful? This makes me want to own a modern house where I can apply them outside, for the wold to see!

Vintage Marvels

I stumbled upon this post over at designworklife about an amazing Etsy shop called Vintage Marvels. They sell lovely selection of letterpress wood blocks. Dangerous territory for me. I couldn’t help but purchase the commas.

Ideas cause Ideas

“Ideas cause ideas and help evolve new ideas. They interact with each other and with other mental forces in the same brain, in neighboring brains, and thanks to global communication, in far distant, foreign brains.”
- Roger Sperry

♥ / Typekit

A big thank you to Typekit for sponsoring this week’s RSS feed.

Typekit is the easiest way to use real fonts on your website. Just copy and paste two lines of code, and you’re off: design just like you ordinarily would, and Typekit takes care of the rest. A huge library of high-quality fonts features the best of your old favorites (from Adobe, FontFont, and more), plus new classics from Mark Simonson, exljbris, Veer, and others. And, as our library expands, your subscription just gets better and better—the hardest part is deciding which font to use.
