'Green Lantern': New Clip Shows Ryan Reynolds In Oa, Heavy CGI (VIDEO)

Ryan Reynolds

Is there anything Ryan Reynolds can't do?

Already People's Sexiest Man Alive and a veritable movie star, Reynolds debuts his very impressive (CGI-powered) flying skills in this new clip for "The Green Lantern." Finding himself on Oa, the home planet of the Green Lantern Corps., Reynolds, playing pilot Hal Jordan, takes to the air with a vengance after a bit of hesitation.

The movie, which is at least half computer generated, what with its space scenes and multitude of aliens, recently dumped $9 million more into last-minute computer graphics work. Designed to be a 3D epic (you can check out the actual 3D trailer here), it seems that the money has been well spent, if these early reactions aggregated by ScreenRant are any indication.

The clip is the latest in a long line of marketing hits, which has included posters, theatrical trailers and a long string of very advanced Reynolds interviews, including one in which he compared his character to Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

don't want to stoop
to low hanging fruit here,
but the drum-beat of this guy's press
is irritating - he must have a publicity super agent
(or a deal with the devil).

never seen a movie with the guy,
but he doesn't appear to be hollywood-standard, by far.
he looks like every other guy in high school.

i see him, and i think: really"?"

This movie doesn't look good....but I'm going to see it anyway.

I initially didn't have much hope for this.
Ryan Reynolds being the major reason.
And with the exception of Nolan's "BATMAN" films,
DC Comics just stays losing on the live-action big screen (whereas their Home Video Animation Division still puts out quality work).

But after catching one of those "FIRST LOOK" of "GREEN LANTERN" at the theater while waiting for "THE TREE OF LIFE", I've become hopeful that this may develop into a good franchise for DC.

And I wish people would stop complaining about the CGI already.
It's the ONLY way you're going to get a universe and characters of this scope on film.

Oh.
And I hope these "Poozers" do Kilowog justice.
Especially since Michael Clarke Duncan is handling his vocals.

I'm not even a green lantern fan, but when he speaks the oath, I do get some serious nerd chills.

As excited as I am that my favorite superhero is finally getting a movie, I am trying to be open-minded to Reynolds as Hal Jordan. I've seen most of Reynold's movies and by anyone's reasonable standards he is somewhere between a poor actor and a terrible actor.

Other than great abs, I also don't get how he is sexy or attractive, but that's just my opinion.

Green represents "Will."

It's ROY-G-BIV:

Red: Anger
Orange: Avarice
Yellow: Fear

Green: Will-Power

Blue: Hope
Indigo: Compassion
Violet: Love

The farther one gets from the middle (Green), the more intense the emotional power is. So, while Violet Lanterns represent "Love," they are totally obsessed by their emotions. It's not love in the sense of "lovey-dovey" love. It's love in the sense of obsession.

Anyways, none of this will be in the film, most likely. It's all a recent development in the comics. And it would be confusing to people who don't read Green Lantern or the related books.

But just so you know. :)

Well Carol Ferris is in the film, and she's the current leader of the Star Sapphires (violet)...check her flight helmet, she has the Sapphire symbol on it. And I heard talk that Atrocitus (later Red Lantern leader) was in the film, which would match up with Geoff Johns' additions to the GL Emerald Dawn storyline, but I'm not sure. Might make sense since when they reboot the comics this fall, the Red Lanterns are getting their own series.

If the violet's "love" is actually obsession, how is that obsession different from the avarice of orange?

Reynolds is perfect casting for Hal. He has the look, he has the attitude. And I can't wait to see Blake Lively as Carol. She should be excellent as well, and I'm assuming she will become the Star Sapphire at the end to set up the sequel. Boo-yah!

Another stupid american comic book block buster movie. Yeah, no wonder the rest of the world laughs at our big, fat stupid comic book cheetos eating losers! Gee, this plot is difficult: guy becomes hero, hero saves the day, hero gets the girl at the end of the movie, but WAIT, there's more - did the bad guy really die? Stay tuned for the Green Lantern 2, the return....to dark green! Oooh, whatever

Umm, Green Lantern has been a character in comics since 1940. The Japanese hadn't even bombed Pearl Harbor yet when the first GL comic came out.

And yes, it is about a hero. Hal Jordan is a hero. But he's not Superman. He answers a calling. He's chosen above all others because of his bravery, his fearlessness, and his strength of will.

Also, GL 2 will not be about whether the bad guy really died. More than likely, Carol, the woman Hal has loved since he was a boy, will become the Star Sapphire, and Hal's nemesis.

Why you have a problem with a movie like Green Lantern, I have no idea. There are films like Tree of Life and Melancholia coming out, too. Something like GL doesn't stop Terence Malick of Lars von Trier from making films. And you can enjoy a big, bombastic hero story like Green Lantern while also enjoying something like Melancholia. It's not an either/or situation.
