It was all about red, white and blue at Yves Saint Laurent's Resort 2012 show, with a little gold and black thrown in for good measure. Designer Stefano Pilati showed his summery cruise collection in a chic space atop a midtown Manhattan skyscraper as the fashion elite, including Vogue's Hamish Bowles and editors from Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire and Elle, as well as YSL fan and "The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow, watched.

The collection was a jaunty, if a bit heavy-handed, trip to the seaside, with navy stripes, crisp cotton, vivid crimson leather and a few ship anchors popping up here and there (as a print on shorts, for example). Although the theme and color scheme was limited, the variety of silhouettes weren't, spanning trim day looks, like a slim red trench accented with gold buttons, and flowing dresses with subtle floral prints that were perfect for a night on the beach.

Some of the looks were quite buttoned-up (unsurprising from Mr. Pilati), but I adored most the swingy striped trapeze dress donned by none other than model-of-the-moment Lindsey Wixson, which was paired with a tangle of beads and flowers around her neck. As the temperature rises, it's that kind of easy, breezy summer fashion we're looking for.
One-Eyed, Thieving Swashbuckler Wanted In Coloradohttp://weirdnews.aol.com/2011/06/02/one-eyed-thieving-swashbuckler_n_870513.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
Avast, ye mateys, listen up! Police in Colorado are trying to identify a one-eyed scallywag who robbed a Colorado Springs pharmacy over the weekend.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 3:50 a.m. Sunday when a disguised swashbuckler went into the Walgreens pharmacy in the 900 block of North Circle Drive. Armed with a modern-day musketoon, the wannabe pirate was not in search of jewels or doubloons but instead demanded prescription medications.

The pharmacist filled a bag with an undisclosed amount of prescription loot, and just as quickly as he had sailed in on foot, the villainous buccaneer dashed out the nearest exit. Booty in hand, he fled in an unknown direction, authorities said.

Employees of the pharmacy quickly battened down the hatches and notified police.

The malevolent bearded bandit's daring heist was captured by the drugstore's surveillance cameras. He is described as a white male in his 20s, approximately 5' 9" tall, and approximately 150 pounds, with brown eyes.

"He wore a disguise to alter his appearance," Colorado Springs police said in a press release. "The suspect held a weapon in his right hand and provided a bag for the drugs."

The general public should not attempt to apprehend the unknown rascal, since to do so could risk an unwanted tour of Davy Jones' locker. Instead, anyone with information about the case should call Detective Eric Anderson at 719-444-7869 or Crime-stoppers at 719-634-7867.
PHOTOS: USC Dedicates Katzenberg Center for Animationhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/02/steven-spielberg-george-l_n_870484.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
A select group of Hollywood royalty congregated last night at the University of Southern California to honor DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and his wife Marilyn. The couple donated a generous sum in order to create USC's School of Cinematic Arts' new Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Center for Animation. The facility will be housed in USC's year-old, four-story animation building. The Katzenberg’s gift will go toward outfitting the facility and classrooms with materials and equipment used in the instruction of visual effects, 2D and 3D animation, and stop motion animation formats.
.
At the event on Wednesday night, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Jack Black, and other close friends of the DreamWorks Animation studio praised the Katzenbergs' philanthropic efforts. Mr. Katzenberg expressed his excitement for future generations of USC-educated animators as he told the students in the crowd, "We look forward to you coming through the gates of DreamWorks Animation really soon," reports The Wrap.
Since then, there's been a lot of discussion about how serious the findings really are.

The WHO's cancer research arm, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, classified cell phones as a class "2b": possible carcinogen. Police Suspect California Woman's Trash Bag May Have Been Stuffed With Ex-Boyfriend's Dismembered Body Partshttp://weirdnews.aol.com/2011/06/01/carmen-montenegro-dismembered-remains_n_869948.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
Authorities in California suspect dismembered human remains found inside a trash can San Bernardino resident Carmen Montenegro allegedly pushed down a suburban street Sunday could belong to her missing ex.

"Detectives are ... looking into the recent disappearance of Montenegro's past boyfriend," the City of Ontario Police Department said in a press release.

According to police, the unidentified ex-boyfriend was last seen by relatives on May 1. He was later reported as a missing person to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Montenegro, 51, was caught with the 30-gallon wheeled container full of human remains Sunday afternoon, after several concerned neighbors contacted police.
On Tuesday, detective Jeff Crittenden told The Huffington Post he could not comment on the condition of the body, but did say the victim was a male of unknown age or race. He also said the man "was dismembered [and] it appears to be a homicide."

Crittenden said investigators suspect Montenegro disinterred the remains from a home she used to live at in the 700 block of North Holmes Avenue, which is located about 200 yards from where she was arrested.

Investigators conducted an extensive search of the property and excavated portions of the backyard. According to Sgt. David McBride, detectives have now completed processing the residence and have "recovered undisclosed items of evidentiary value."

On Tuesday, the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office filed one count of murder against Montenegro. She is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

"The investigation is on-going and updated information will be released when available," McBride said.
The 2011 International Venice Biennale opens this week, featuring the national pavilions of a record 88 participating countries. Long hailed as the world's most prestigious forum for contemporary art, this year's celebration largely focuses on innovation, youth, and global transformation. Zimbabwe and Haiti are exhibiting for the first time in the biennial's history, while Iraq returns after 43 years. The U.S. national pavilion showcases Allora & Calzadilla, an artist collective based in Puerto Rico who offer a groundbreaking installation dealing with complex national, political, and aesthetic questions. For its part, Russia employs Andrei Monastyrsky and Collective Actions to reference the defiant rise of contemporary art under Soviet rule. These 5 entries exemplify the immense scope and diversity that has come to characterize the Biennale, which in its 54th installment continues to display its commitment to the most relevant artistic currents around the world.
CNN Skyrockets, Fox News Still Tops In May Ratingshttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/01/cable-news-ratings-top-30_n_869861.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
Most months, the cable news ratings show little fluctuation. Fox News is always dominant, and the rest of the pack shuffles around a bit. In May, though, there were dramatic jumps in many shows' ratings. (Fox News, however, was still dominant, taking the top 12 shows of the month. Some things never, ever change.)

Leading the dramatic-jump pack? CNN. The network benefited from the big ratings spike it received after the killing of Osama bin Laden, and it posted impressive numbers, beating its May 2010 ratings by 60%. Anderson Cooper's viewing figures grew by 89% in the A25-54 demo and by over 400,000 overall, and he topped MSNBC in both categories. Piers Morgan and John King's ratings also jumped.

Over at MSNBC, Rachel Maddow continued her streak as the network's most popular anchor, and "Morning Joe" had a solid month.

How did individual shows do? Below, see the top 30 cable news programs for May.
Noah's Ark Replica Could Make A Splash At 2012 Olympicshttp://weirdnews.aol.com/2011/06/01/noahs-ark-replica-2012-olympics_n_869699.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
When Noah built his famous ark, he had two of everything -- except arks, of course.

That may be changing thanks to Dutch creationist Johan Huibers who has spent three years and $1.6 million of his own money building a modern-day replica of the Biblical ark.

Huibers was swept away by the idea 20 years ago after dreaming about a great flood sweeping Holland. He decided it was a signal to spread God's message, according to the Telegraph.

According to Biblical legend, the original ark was built to protect Noah's family and two of every kind of animal during a flood that lasted 40 days and 40 nights.

Huibers' vessel is reportedly the same size as the original ark. That works out to be about 450 feet long and 75 feet wide.

This is actually Huibers' second ark. In 2007, he finished a half-scale version before setting his sights on the bigger version.

There are some concessions to modernity. For instance, the ark uses Swedish pine instead of the "gopher wood" mentioned in the Bible. Huibers says that's okay since, in the Bible, God told Noah to use a "resin wood." The ark is also built around a steel frame.

Another concession to reality, or at least animal rights activists: This Ark will be stuffed mostly with fake mammals. However, Huibers has also built an aviary on the deck house that will hold free-flying live birds.

Huibers is hoping to make a big splash with his ark next year by having it moored in London during the 2012 Summer Olympics. He has sent a letter to the city's mayor, Boris Johnson, asking permission to dock there. He says he hopes the gigantic modern-day relic inspires children.

Whether Huibers' ark is part of God's plan or not remains to be seen, but it seems like Noah's Ark is due for a flood of media attention.

Later this summer, former "Baywatch" beauty Donna D'Errico is planning to fulfill a lifelong dream of climbing Mount Ararat in Turkey to search for the frozen remains of Noah's ark.

"This has been a dream of mine since I was 9 or 10," D'Errico told AOL Weird News. "I went to Catholic school and was fascinated by Noah's ark. I would do class projects based on the ark."

D'Errico's fascination with the Biblical tale wasn't just a childhood passion. As she grew older, she continued to study and research the ark, especially stories suggesting that it was close to being found.

"I'd read different stories about how people thought they found the [animal] cages and I was completely intrigued," she said. "I decided that someday I'd go to Turkey, climb Mount Ararat and search for Noah's ark."

According to legend, the ark is located on Mount Ararat, a snow-capped, dormant volcanic cone in the easternmost part of Turkey that has two peaks: Greater Ararat, with an elevation of 16,854 feet, and Lesser Ararat, which is 12,782 feet above sea level.

However, despite numerous sightings and expeditions, no solid proof of the ark has ever been found.

D'Errico would like to be the person who makes the historical find.

"I've been studying this for years and know where the sightings have been," she said. "According to my research, the ark lays broken into at least two, but most likely three, pieces. I believe that one of those pieces is in the uppermost Ahora Gorge area, an extremely dangerous area to climb and explore."

But research alone isn't enough. D'Errico is training to get her stamina up in order to handle a climb nearly three miles high.

"It's not a technical climb," she said. "Many inexperienced climbers have done it, but you do need stamina and, obviously, a crew."

She is looking to make August the month she starts her ascent, and she is swimming and running to build up her endurance. Her preparation is being filmed for a Discovery Channel series tentatively titled "reModel."

D'Errico also hopes to visit Huibers in person and see his ark up close and to personally thank him for not being afraid to demonstrate his faith.

"So many people have let God and the Bible fall to the wayside in their lives," she said. "Some have never even had God or the Bible as a part of their lives at all, and see things like what Mr. Huibers is doing or what I am doing to be a silly waste of time and resources.

"Even speaking about anything religious these days is frowned upon or ridiculed. After all, you might 'offend' someone. I applaud Mr. Huibers for putting himself in the line of fire to try and inspire others. Good for him."
Louis Ferrante: 10 Legitimate Business Tips From An Ex-Mafia Man (PHOTOS)http://www.huffingtonpost.com/louis-ferrante/10-small-business-tips-fr_b_869823.htmlLouis Ferrantehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/louis-ferrante/
The Mafia is the longest running corporation in history. It thrives along with other organizations during prosperous times and flourishes even more in periods of economic decline. Bear or bull makes no difference to the Mafia.

For all the well-deserved criticisms of the Mob's violence, its most successful members have always been remarkably astute businessmen -- they have applied their street smarts to legal enterprises and earned millions doing so. In fact, the Mafia is just like any other major organization in America, raking in billions a year in profit. But few people realize that every large crime family is comprised of many individual Mafia crews that are run just like small businesses.

My new book, Mob Rules: What the Mafia Can Teach the Legitimate Businessman, brings together all of the Mob's accrued wisdom and shrewd business practices so that small business owners everywhere can learn a thing or two from their counterparts in the underworld.

Here are 10 lessons small business owners can take from the Mafia:
In the words of the CPJ, the Index documents the places "where journalists are slain and killers go free."

Iraq remains the deadliest country in the world for the press. A shocking 92 journalist murders have gone unsolved there in the past decade. The CPJ says that a growing trouble spot for journalists is Mexico, where the drug war is proving more and more lethal for reporters.
Countries With The Best Work-Life Balancehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/01/top-ten-countries-with-work-life-balance_n_868224.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
In times of economic uncertainty, personal lives can often be forgotten to the pressures of the workplace, knocking the work-life balance out of whack.

That might be true now more than ever, but not for all countries. Recently, the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released the Better Life Initiative, examining how various aspects of people's lives affect the general well-being of whole countries. And besides taking into account factors like housing and income, the OECD also looked at the work-life balance of each country.

The OECD's Better Life Index for work-life balance is compiled using three indicators: (1) the amount of time spent on personal activities; (2) the employment rate of women with children between 6 and 14 years of age; and (3) the number of employees working over 50 hours a week.

Habits vary among the 34 countries examined in the report. According to the data, Belgium has the most personal time, with an average of 16.61 hours a day, compared to the combined average of 15.46 hours. As for working mother's, Turkey has the least, with only 24 percent of women with children also holding down a paying job. And it's the Netherlands and Sweden that tied for the least-overworked population, with only 0.01 percent of their respective populations regularly working over 50 hours a week.

Overall the average person in OECD's countries works 1739 hours, or 217 work days a year, and spends 64 percent of their day on leisure and personal activities.

Below are the the top ten countries with the best work-life balance according to the OECD.
While children count down the days until summer, one question looms large for their parents: "What are they going to do?" Summer should be a time for roaming, discovering and running outside -- but unfortunately, for all too many kids, more free time means more screen time and more structured activities.

It's up to you to ensure that your kids get a healthy daily dose of unstructured outdoor play. Here are six ways to get your children moving, nurture their creativity and provide them with all the rich learning opportunities that outdoor play presents. In the process, you'll meet new neighbors and contribute to a nationwide movement to save play.
Pole Dancing Colombian Women Take To The Streets (PHOTOS)http://weirdnews.aol.com/2011/06/01/colombian-women-pole-dance_n_869344.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
Now that pole dancing has moved out of strip clubs and into gyms, it seems only natural that it would end up in the streets.

That's what happened recently in Medellin, Colombia, when some of the South American country's most accomplished dancers took the street to promote the activity by swinging, twirling and climbing up every street sign and scaffold available.

The mass pole dance featured students and instructors based in Medellin. It was designed to promote pole dancing in Colombia as well as Miss Pole Dance Medellin, an event taking place July 2, and "Miss Pole Dance Colombia," an event taking place July 30.

Organizer Alejandra Santamaria said the street-smart campaign is crucial to getting her fellow Colombians to recognize pole dancing as a great form of fitness.

<HH--236SLIDEPOLLAJAX--27420--HH>

"We wanted to promote what pole dance can be: a great deal of gymnastics, lots of technique and fun," she told AOL Weird News. "Pole dance has still lots of space to grow. As of today, it is not even understood. In Latin America, many still think it is related to striptease and they have no clue about the challenge it represents."

But as difficult as pole dancing can be in a gym or on a stage with a shiny brass pole, the techniques are even more difficult when practiced on wooden stakes or metal street signs, according to Ingrid Tsai, Santamaria's partner in pole dance promotion.

"The hardest part in urban pole dancing is finding a structure with a good caliber," Tsai said. "Usually, dancing poles have a diameter of 1.75 to two inches. Apart from the caliber, the material in street structures can make the job harder. Dancing poles are made from stainless steel or brass, which facilitates the friction you need to have between your skin and the surface."

"So, it may appear to be easy, but urban pole dancing can be much harder that what people think," she said.

According to Wendy Traskos, the founder of the United States Pole Dance Federation, which is working to make pole dancing a recognized sport similar to ice skating, "street pole" is a spontaneous activity usually practiced by students after they have built up strength in their upper bodies.

"Their bodies are changing and they are getting addicted to climbing and swinging," she said. "It feels like you're going back to your younger days playing on the monkey bars. You'll see people flipping themselves off of street signs or climbing scaffolding."

Traskos understands the enthusiasm, but warns that "street pole" is something that shouldn't be attempted without serious training.

"You have to walk before you run," she said. "You learn to do a somersault on the ground before you do it in the air. The problem is -- and what we're trying to do -- is establish a structure on training. There is some bad instruction out there. You don't want to see a woman who is 30 pounds overweight trying to lift their hips over their head on their third day of lessons."

Traskos, who offers classes to pole dancing teachers, says the key thing that street pole dancers need to remember is to check out the pole or scaffold before attempting the trick, because the texture can make a difference.

"These moves are even more physical than the ones in classes," she said.

And that's part of the appeal according to Kelly Blake, a pole dancing instructor in Sarasota, Fla. who once "street poled" on the airport terminal shuttle at Charles DeGaulle Airport in France.

"It's a natural part of pole dancing," she admitted. "Soon as you start to get that strong, it's hard not to use it."

Blake recommends "street polers" use gloves when attempting their stunts outside of clubs or gyms, and she says never drink beforehand.

Although "street pole" is different from traditional pole dancing, Blake sees it as being a good way to take away the strip bar stigma.

"It's fun to do it at a busy intersection and get people to look at you and they don't look at you trashy," she said.

But "Charley" Crystal Harris, a pole dance instructor in Pontiac, Mich., warns would-be "street polers" that they could get some strange looks.

"It can go both ways," she said. "Some people will give you funny looks and assume we're strippers who just don't have a pole. But, really, we're just doing tricks. It's not like we're bringing music to the park."

"On the other hand," she said, "little kids think it's cool. They don't know about strip clubs and just think I'm, like, doing a handstand across the park."

Although "street pole" is still an underground activity, Julia Kurz, a pole dance instructor in Boston, says Beantown seems to be a hot spot for it.

"I've seen a rash of sightings on Boyleston Street around 2 a.m.," she said. "After some girls have had a drink, they will show off their skills by doing them on scaffolding. However, it's hard to twirl around on stop signs because the poles are square."

As for Kurz, she is most likely to "street pole" on sunny days, but she says it's best to take precautions before doing any "street poling."

"You can do it while wearing high heels, but I do suggest wearing gloves and pants," she said.

Blake believes that New York City is the best place for "street poling."

"You can't walk 10 feet without running into a brass pole," she said wistfully.

Tsai believes the recent street pole campaign did a lot to raise awareness about pole dancing, but she admits she isn't sure if the street version will ever replace the indoor version.

"A dancing pole will never be replaced with a red light!" she laughed. "It is hard to say that 'urban pole' will be the future of pole dancing. However, pole dancing will become more common and more women will start joining this discipline so, maybe, with time, we will probably find more and more people climbing and spinning around our streets!"

Dr. Lois Frankel: PHOTOS: 'Nice Girls Just Don't Get It' http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-lois-frankel/nice-girl-syndrome_b_869362.htmlDr. Lois Frankelhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-lois-frankel/
Women are still undervalued -- at home and at work. Even though women now fill 49% of all professional and managerial-level jobs, women CEOs lead in only 15 of the FORTUNE 500 companies, or 3 percent. The reasons are complicated but among them is the reality that traditional family structures, social norms, and established business practices prevent many women from reaching their potential. Clearly, these need to be reevaluated and redesigned -- but shifts of this type and magnitude take time. In the meantime, many women "struggle to juggle" career and family. That's why we teamed up to write "Nice Girls Just Don't Get It," designed to help women win the lives they want.
PHOTOS: Artistic Explorations Of Spacehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/01/exhibition-spotlight-seth_n_869430.htmlThe Huffington Post News Teamhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-news/
The show "Pursuing a Calculated Distance" with works by Seth Curcio, Bradley Hyppa, and Benjamin Meyer is an exploration of visual perception and the intensely intimate nature of sight. The concepts of each artist work well with one another even though they work across different media. The influence of Cubism and the art of Cezanne are visible to different degrees in the works of each of the artists, most readily apparent in the experimentation with the idea of spacial perception.

The artists explain their interest,
"Visual perception and sensation are intensely personal phenomena and though they can be described, their specific character and qualities remain ultimately unknowable in other people. No one can experience what another human being is experiencing."

Seth Curcio work's are alternately extremely large or quite small, physically demanding attention by the amount of space they consume. One of his works, "Spacial Descent," is made up of twenty different views of the ocean, a piece that can viewed as either partitions or as a whole. Curio offers multiple views of one space, either as a part or as a whole.

Bradley Hyppa works with lights and video, adding an illusory quality to his work. The works are constantly changing, questioning the notion of space as a fixed concept.

Finally Benjamin Meyer works have most obvious Cubist influences, they have an the quality of a quilt or mosaic, flat squares of color are used to create depth.
