Is the NBA Anti-Gay? (VIDEO)

Posted: 06/ 6/11 02:41 PM ET

While the NBA wants the world to focus on the Finals, there's another word that starts with an "F" that's plaguing the league. Yes, the word that ends in "t" -- with "aggot" in the middle. (Think about it.) After two prominent players, including American icon Kobe Bryant, drew fines recently for dropping the "gay F-word" on the court, it begs the question: do we hate the player or hate the game?

The NBA has since released several pro-gay PSAs. But none of them really seem to be hitting the mark in the right way. So, listen up Kobe Bryant and other haters. Next time you feel the urge to call someone a "f****t" on the court, heed this common-sense advice from my PSA. To wit: Don't say it, just think it. Because actions speak louder than words, but thoughts don't make any sound at all.

Yes, not to mention anti hispanic and anti white. The NBA should require that on each 12 man squad that 7 are white/other, 3 are hispanic and 2 are black, 50% are women and of the 12, 1 is a gay/lesbian or transgender. It is only fair if we want to create tolerance and diversity. After cleaning up the NBA we can move on to jobs and roles in the media and hollywood and even the HuffPost.

"When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"
- John Maynard Keynes

Ladies and gentlemen, the facts have changed. Isn't it time to evolve and no longer give weight to any word that is directed at offending somebody. The comedy website Cracked did a great job in an article listing "9 Words You've Used Today With Bizarre Criminal Origins" and South Park as well in their episode "The F Word" explaining that it should now mean a Harley biker.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone attempt to do this in the episode...
["The F Word" advocates a philosophy that language is malleable and ever-changing, and that the idea of taboo words are only assigned their stigma because society allows them to become so."]

Let's no longer allow words to have the power to offend us.

duh? because he's funny? btw, why are you on HuffPost?

Didn't realize he did the piece. Apologies. I thought that the videos were just side-pieces to the story. And I just felt like the topic was too serious for huffpost comedy. But to be honest, I didnt know huffpost comedy existed until today, so maybe Im not the best judge of what should be here.

Again, apologies. Im sure Bryan Safi is appropriately hilarious for huffpost comedy.

Yes. All "sports" are anti-Gay. If you have any doubts about this claim, I dare you to step up in the middle of any locker room and announce to your teammates that you are Gay.
16 hours ago (1:12 AM)
Why would you need to do that?
7 hours ago (10:17 AM)
Because as an American you have the right to be free. You should be able to be yourself, who you truly are without consequence...

It is okay for pro sports players to cheat on wives and families every chance they can... sleep around with who knows who and it is kept underwraps, but let a gay person stand up and be accounted, the world would be coming to an end.

Let me tell you gay athletes are just as good as straight athletes. The problem is homophobia is an American value taught to kids so they can hate early on, when in reality it is just a person's misinformed opinion.

When you preach hate... no one wins... when do you turn to hating Jewish people, blacks, Irish, German, Italian, Women, or any other segment of the population that does not cater to your viewpoint.

The reason is simple because we are all Americans. And we should all have the freedom to pursue our goals... without harm.

Do you think there are zero Gay players in all the professional leagues? There's a reason none of them step up and admit it when they are in their prime earning years.

Elaborated.

no. the NBA is not Anti-gay. they just have good cameras.

Two players out of 500 or so got caught saying an offensive word. Thats all it is. And neither of these players were using the word in a way referring to homosexuality. They were using the word as an insult... which is all th e word is nowadays, really. To call the NBA anti-gay because two players were caught using a word in an emotional heat-of-the-moment situation is ridiculous. People use words like this all the time and it doesnt make them anti-gay. If there was a mic or a camera on us every time someone cut us off in traffic, we would probably have some explaining to do as well.

Were kobe and noah a bit irresponsible and insensitive when they said what they said? probably, yes. Is the NBA anti-gay because of it. No. not in the least bit
21 hours ago (8:28 PM)
It may not make them anti-gay, but it does show that they are ignorant or insensitive at the very least.
16 hours ago (1:07 AM)
I would say ignorant, not insensitive. Insensitive, to me, would mean it wasn't a spur of the moment thing. That it wasnt just an emotional outburst.

But definitely ignorant. I couldnt agree with you more.
