“Being stinkin drunk is gross behavior but a young man knows the difference between rape and consent and buddy, if there's any question about consent (she's incoherant, not responsive or basically in a drunk daze) don't do it.”
“Your post means alot...I'm going to show it to my oldest daughter who is leaving in August for college.
I hope you are better today, thank you for sharing.”
“Thank you, smp65 - I'm a very happy, healthy, well-adjusted person despite that experience. :)
Tell your daughter to be careful - it sounds silly to some people, but using things like the buddy system at parties, not leaving drinks unattended and not taking drinks from men, using security escorts to get across campus at night - they all help minimize risk. I hope she has a fun, safe, college experience!”
“It's a shame to come here and read so many posters disparaging Kentucky or people of faith. Doesn't that little box get uncomfortable and boring after a while?
Anyway, I love electronic road signs being hacked.....one of the funniest I ever saw read; Nobody Loves You. Who thinks like that?....but it was laugh out loud funny.”
“I love Kentucky. My sister used to live in Louisville and another friend lived in Lexington. I enjoyed visiting both cities. Lynn's Paradise Cafe was the best place for breakfast in Louisville, I used to wander Cave Hill Cemetery, and there's tons of cool resale shops there, too.
Unfortunately, the nutjobs like Michele Bachmann are making many of us want to disparage people with hate. You can't claim to be a Christian and then hate everyone at the same time.”
“If the arrest or search were on the up and up, why the ruckus? Policeman have my respect but sometimes act like jack booted thugs, the police are wrong in this case.”
“Not always....what if one of the people is underage? How do you feel about sibs/family members sleeping together? Beastiality is still illegal too. Not so easy to lock in one's race with ones preferred sexual partner.”
“Ah, yes. A distraction and the libs flavor of the month. Much ado about nothing...get married, have civil unions, do whatever blows your hair back. Feeding ones family, worrying about college tuitions, living on a fixed income, will I ever retire, healthcare and bills, lay offs, mortgages, etc....that's where the real anxiety of the common folk is.”
“I thought Canadiens were so much more advanced and intelligent that we of the States.
Dave Foley told me so in an interview he gave about the antiquated health care system in the US vs the more sophisticated healthcare system in Canada. Who knew? I thought they'd od on back bacon and Tim Morton donuts.
Congrats to the Bruins and their fans.”

“I don't think that's odd at all.
I found nothing wrong with men looking at me, I found it complimentary (unless it was downright oogling...creepy) but was disheartened and sometimes threatened that sex was the only interest men had. I guess we women are idealistic.
As I age I am so much more comfortable in my skin and not merely ornamental. Men and how they feel or react doesn't mean much anymore and that's a blessing.”

“I think this also has alot to do with discipline. Thinner women are more disciplined about what they eat and working out. It may lap onto their work ethic. I'm in shape, it's due to disciplined eating and staying active. If I ate what I see alot of other women my age eat, I too would be overweight.”
Thinner women aren't more disciplined about eating and working out, we've just decided as a society they are based on flawed data. I know a woman who would technically be termed as "obese" who runs half-marathons and can climb five sets of stairs without getting remotely winded, while our stick-thin coworker takes the elevator because if she climbs 5 flights she'll be a sweaty, gasping mess at the top. And I think we all know of a few slim, groomed women who are complete wastes of space at work.
You should look up some real studies about weight and health. Overweight people live longer than skinny people, for instance. And this article was particularly eye-opening for me:
Some people are just metabolically tuned to weigh more than your doctor's BMI charts advises. And of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with work performance - or health. It's not healthy to starve yourself, obviously.
It kind of cracks me up, actually. We're able to glorify this stick-thin ideal because we have an abundance of food, lack of manual labor and pervasive medical care; at any other time in history, a stick-thin woman was UNDESIRABLE because she was seen as weak and sickly, unable to bear children or reliably help on a farm. The second our circumstances change, so will the cultural preference for thin women.”
“And alternatively, many very thin women are terrified of gaining weight and do very unhealthy things to their bodies to remain" very thin". Type "A" personality to the max. Regardless of a value judgement, this probably works in their favor in the work place. On the flip side, the percentage of women who slave to thinness in an unhealthy manner, and they do exist, are often dependent on mood and physical altering substances, rendering them emotionally unstable.”
“Discipline is overrated in the workplace. Many have creativity, which can be more profitable. I'm not super disciplined, but creativity cut my department's costs by 40%.”
