Father Pfleger Says He Will Preach Elsewhere If Not Reinstated At St. Sabina

CHICAGO -- An activist priest suspended by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago says he'll start preaching at other churches if he's not reinstated at his South Side parish by this weekend.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Rev. Michael Pfleger made the comment Tuesday during a meeting with parishioners at St. Sabina Catholic Church. Pfleger has led the parish for 30 years.

Pfleger said he has received offers to preach from around the U.S.

Cardinal Francis George suspended Pfleger last month after Pfleger suggested he would leave the church if he was reassigned. A spokeswoman for the archdiocese says George plans to meet with Pfleger but has not yet set a time.

In 2008, Pfleger was suspended for nearly two weeks after mocking then-Sen. Hillary Clinton during her presidential run.

How long until Sean Hannity jumps in on the story? Aren't William Ayers, Rev. Wright and Fr. Flegr Hannity's holy trinity?

It is very unusual for a priest to be at the same parish for 30 years...Fr. Pfegler worked very hard over the years for St. Sabina and the people of the area...but priests can and are moved routinely...I have a feeling that Fr P has gotten caught up in the cult of his personality, it is heady stuff, and we shouldn't denigate or demean what he has been able to accomplish all these years...but as a diocesan priest he always knew he could be moved at a moments notice...he grew complacent in the thought they would never move him...push is coming to shove...will spirituality win out over ego?

Why does anyone care what happens to this man? If he had real convictions he would leave a Church that would empower and protect Child Molesters!

This story treats upon Pfleger's service to the Roman Catholic Church, which he has served with distinction for over 30 years. Evidently, he places worth on the Catholic creed...it's evident YOU do not.

There has NEVER been a scintilla of evidence of trouble concerning priestly abuse during Pfleger's tenure at St. Sabina's.

You'd rather have him join some Cracker Baptist storefront with a self-anionted "bishop" that drives a Cadillac to the great expense of his flock ?

Or maybe join White-Hater Calypso Looey Farrakhan at his pretend-Islam "temple," where, afterwards, Looey might allow the White Devil to wait on tables at the exclusive, attached gourmet restaurant.

Give me a break.

Stay on topic or go elsewhere.

I would rather him leave the news cycle. Its all about the Cult of Personality. Oh, and there is not possible way that a person can belong to a "Church" rife with Pedophiles and not know anything about it.

This Priest has fought to save his parishioners from the City's fostered crime gangs . There is huge money floating around in the illegal drug business and in Chicago big money means "Big Clout" . Pfleger has put his life on the line for his people like no other Catholic Priest ever has , but there are forces out there that even he and his minions can not win against . Illegal drug money is the greatest cash flow in this nation and anybody that mess's with it will have problems .

I listened to Father Pfleger on the Smiley and West podcast and I was very impressed with his beliefs and call for truth to power. Much respect Father Pfleger.

He's a loose cannon in an organization that doesn't tolerate them well.

They can tolerate pedophiles just fine, but not loose cannons.

Father Pfleger has been silent thus far - and I think that served him well in the eyes of Cardinal George.

Instead of keeping his mouth shut and entering into negotiations with the Archdiocese about his future, he has decided to level yet another ultimatum to the Cardinal.

Pfleger seems willing to sacrifice the thirty-plus years of service to this parish for his own brand of mirror-gazing, self-aggrandizing, Pfleger-centric worship.

He remained in residence at St. Sabina's, and the Archdiocese didn't call the police and have him ejected, as they legally probably should have done. I think the Cardinal's booting him out is now only a matter of time.

Francis Cardinal George is probably too busy negotiating with prosecuters to keep the serial child molestors in his duchy out of the slammer. Please refer to the article entitled " Vatican Covered Up Child Sex Abuse, Lawsuit Claims"

Pfleger has been apart of this Church his whole life...time to come clean.

The discussion here has ZERO to do with the churches' well-known problems with preistly abuse.

There has not been one scent of scandal around Pfleger in that regard.

Keep your comments on topic - his tenure and continued service at St. Sabina's.
