Every month in June, Chicago's gay community gathers to show pride on the North Side. But this month, Chicagoans have something else to be proud of: The Chicago Blackhawks.

As the Hawks make the rounds with their beloved Stanley Cup, members of the Chicago Gay Hockey Association have been trying to get some members of the Hawks to participate in the parade on June 27.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed reports that CGHA is waiting for a reply from the team. The parade invite was extended to all the Hawks players, coaches, broadcasters and personnel. Of course, the Cup is also welcome.

"We're optimistic, but we know the realistic chances of, say, Patrick Sharp or Jonathan Toews joining us for the Pride Parade are slim," CGHA president Andrew Sobotka told Sneed. "But who knows...our goal of having some of the players...skate alongside of us in the Pride Parade was to really let the Blackhawks know that there is a strong interest in hockey within the gay community."

"We would be honored to have the Hawks organization show their support by being there," CGHA member Tony Tiet told Sneed.

I predict the Hawks will send someone to the parade. I'm less certain whether Lord Stanley Cup will be there.

It would be fantastic if a few Hawks could show up. Heck, if the ice girls could show up and rollerblade through the parade they would be a big hit too.

Remember, they are a young team so I would guess much less likely to be afraid to be perceived as gay friendly.

It's nice to read the positive responses here, the posts on Sun-Times site are horrifically homophobic.

(I am not gay) - but 3 CHEERS for all Chicago's awesome Blackhawk supporters.
Chicago is probably the most American of American cities. Chicago looks at Gay's with full rights and acceptance as quality human beings. Chicago officially thanks ALL Chicago Gays for their awesomeness.

If Blackhawks don't make the event - that is shameful.
But it's possible they are just overbooked and about to fall over after so much work.

Thank you Chicago's Gay & Lesbian BlackHawk supporters.
We love you !!!!!!!!

Well, not exactly full rights. We still can't get married and if you look over on the sun-times comment section, we still have a lot of homophobia to deal with even here.
