Reese Witherspoon Disses Sex Tapes, Reality Stars At MTV Movie Awards (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/ 6/11 07:59 AM ET Updated: 06/ 7/11 12:44 PM ET

While accepting the Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, Reese Witherspoon acted as Hollywood's elder stateswoman and gave a word to the wise to a new rising class of talent. And more than a few words to a generation of reality-level "celebrities."

Having first put Robert Pattinson in his place for a bungled joke during her presentation, Witherspoon unleashed a surprisingly scathing set of remarks seemingly aimed at the Kardashians, "16 & Pregnant" girls and maybe even Blake Lively.

"I get it, girls, that it's cool to be a bad girl," she told viewers. "But it is possible to make it in Hollywood without doing a reality show. When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed."

Kim Kardashian, of course, has used a sex tape and her reality shows to rocket her way to celebrity.

"And if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people!" Witherspoon continued, seemingly bringing Blake Lively, recent nude photo scandal "victim," into the equation. "Hide your face!"

The war on US media has been won by the elite..

good for her

People do really have short memories. Witherspoon became famous because she was pregnant with Ryan Phillippe's baby, a much bigger star at the time, and then married him. So much for becoming famous solely on talent...

Why don't more female celebs speak out to young girls this way, more often?! Thank you, Reese.

It seems they all knew what would work for them, as individuals.

Reese is an icon. She's had some tough knocks and she keeps it classy. Upstanding actress.

Good for her! She is just saying what more and more people are thinking. Reality TV was geting tired after the first season of "The Real World" when it was becoming PAINFULLY obvious that all it took to grasp a little bit of fame was a lack of shame and a personality disorder. Besides, one would have to be brain dead not to realize that none of these folks are as BAD as they pretend to be. Doesn't anyone miss STARS? Are people become so socially retarded that they now praise and reward bad behavior? Never mind shaming our new pseudo celebrities, throw some at the public that keeps gobbles them up like heroin-sprinkled potato chips. At this point, I'm not sure which is more pathetic. All I know is that society is on a rapid decline. They say history repeats itself, well, the TV has become our arena and the Snookies and Parises of this world, the witless and highly unattractive gladiators. The powers that be would have us cheer on while they offer up their bodies and self-respect for the sake of entertainment. THUMBS DOWN!

Congratulations, Ms Witherspoon, on your award and your good sense!

Take a cruise though the "entertainment" section here -- definitely not classy.

Reese is the only person that actually deserved the award she got that night.

So unfortunate that so many women must use the neck down to promote themselves because the neck up is empty. Reese's comments were necessary, more women should speak out against the popularized and glamorized travesties that are plaguing our younger women.

She said what NEEDED to be said at that awards show. I love how Reese bought tons of class to that awards show.

We love you, Reese

I saw the display on tv and it looked like Chelsea Handler standing in the backround. If I remember correctly I think she made a sex tape. Reese better be careful as I think Chelsea could whop her backside!

No one seems to take personal responsibility anymore. We have a choice in what we do. If they choose to get their 15 minutes by acting like trash, let them own it.

she seems to be the only wholesome hollywood starlet left in hollywood. everyone loves a scandal and the word she mentions 'embarrased' means nothing to those with the tapes and pictures.

good advice....on deaf ears.
