Is That You God?

Hearing God's Voice

Does God really talk to us? You may wonder if you've ever truly heard God's voice. I mean, God, Creator of the Universe, capital "G," God. Does he really speak to us? And if so, would we recognize his voice?

The Wesleyan Church Stands Against the Tide

Wednesday June 22, 2011
The Wesleyan Church
Christians are called to stand against injustice no matter how unpopular it is to do so. Throughout its history, the Wesleyan Church has made a powerful impact for change, even when the resounding majority opposed it. Slavery and slave trading were terrible evils propagated by a society entrenched in greed, but the Wesleyans stood against the tide to end these wretched practices, both in England and America.

Another area in which the Wesleyan church has held firm is its position on women in ministry. Wesleyans believe that the ordination of women is biblical and openly "refuse to budge" on the matter.

Who's Who in Scripture - Melchizedek

Tuesday June 21, 2011
ALT TEXT
Medieval canvas "Abraham and Melchizedek", Dieric Bouts (1464-1467).
Melchizedek is a mysterious Bible character whose name means "king of righteousness." He appears briefly as a priest of God Most High in Genesis 14:18-20, and is mentioned again in Psalm 110:4 and Hebrews 5:10; 6:20; 7:1-17.

Some Bible scholars describe him as a "type of Christ," meaning one who reveals the same qualities as Jesus Christ. With no record of father or mother, and no genealogical background in Scripture, this description is fitting. Other scholars go a step further, theorizing that Melchizedek may have been a theophany of Christ, or a manifestation of deity in temporary form.

9 Famous Fathers in the Bible

Friday June 17, 2011
Wise Christian fathers have long recognized the excellent role models presented in the Scriptures. From God the Father, the finest example for all human dads, to the Bible's most famous fathers, men find worthy forerunners to teach them what to do, and what not to do, in the challenging calling of godly parenting.

Noah
Noah and his family prepare to enter the ark.
Adam, the first human father, made some serious mistakes and suffered terrible consequences. He teaches today's dads about the extreme importance of living in obedience to the Lord.

In a world taken over by evil, violence, and corruption, much like today, Noah lived a righteous life. The Bible says he was blameless among the people of his time. But he wasn't perfect. His story shows the negative influence sin can have on those around us, especially our children.

And then there's King David--a man after God's own heart. He is another Bible father with much to teach men of today. His "absentee fathering" demonstrates a devastating lesson about the end result of not disciplining children when they needed it.
