Celebrity Sightings in Arizona

Thursday June 30, 2011

We all know that celebrities love the Southwest. But if you've ever wanted to be treated like a celebrity yourself, here's your chance. Through July 4, you can enter to win a $15,000 dream trip -- for you and seven of your closest pals -- to the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The winner and a friend will fly to Phoenix and be greeted by their entourage for two days and nights of relaxation in one of Sanctuary's private estate homes, which offer everything from private pools to game rooms to outdoor fire pits. The group will also enjoy an excursion to the market and meal cooked by chef Beau MacMillan of Food Network fame.

If you win, you must redeem your trip by Dec. 31. Want to get in the running? All you need to do is click Like on Sanctuary's Facebook page and you'll be entered to win. For more information, visit www.sanctuaryaz.com.

Serenity Now

Monday June 27, 2011

Sometimes, there's nothing more wonderful than a great spa treatment. Particularly when that treatment incorporates materials from the Southwest. At the Nidah Spa at Eldorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe, a variety of new treatments are infused with the best of the Southwest. They include a Prickly Pear Pedicure (using Body Bliss Prickly Pear Aloe and Yucca Root), a Desert Aloe Soothing Gel Body Wrap (with Desert Dew moisturizer), and a Turquoise Sage Organic Facial (with Wild Carrot and Turquoise Sage Hydro Silk).

This weekend, I tried out a signature facial at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa, where treatment ingredients include Texas sarsaparilla, lavender, citrus blossoms and pure algae. It was heavenly.

Recently, I wrote this round-up of the best spas in the Southwest. Interested in Santa Fe spas in particular? Here's a great link for that.

Breckenridge Brings the Fun

Wednesday June 22, 2011

It's hard to believe, but there's still snow on the slopes at some Colorado resorts. Here's an image from the first day of summer at Breckenridge Fun Park.

The park will continue to offer snow tubing as long as the snow lasts, but there are some other fun events you can expect to run all summer long. They include 4X4 off-road tours, pony rides, a Rockpile climbing wall, a SuperBungee Trampoline, Ripperoo's bounce house, gemstone panning, guided hikes, Colorado's largest human maze, an Alpine SuperSlide, a SuperPutt Mini Golf course and the new GoldRunner Alpine Coaster. The park is open daily through Sept. 4 and weekends Sept. 9-18.
