Gaming Press Confused by Concept of Analogy

Tuesday July 5, 2011

Recently in an interview with Wired, Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said, in discussing the realistic looking Wii U Skyward Sword demo shown at E3:

"You probably remember that when we introduced the GameCube, we showed a somewhat realistic Zelda demo. And what we actually created was the cel-shaded Wind Waker. So when we show a graphic demo, people think, 'Oh, this is what the next Zelda will look like,' but that's not necessarily the case.

Now, I would read that statement as, "don't assume the next Wii U Legend of Zelda game will have the same visual style as that demo, it could have a totally different look to it."  But for some reason, game journalists at both The Escapist and WiiUGo have decided this is an indication that the Wii U Zelda will be graphically similar to Wind Waker.

The Escapist (2) : News : Wind Waker Situation Could Happen Again On Wii U.
WiiUGo: Zelda Wii U to have Wind Waker type graphics?

People, THAT'S NOT WHAT HE SAID!  Perhaps they will make a cel-shaded game, perhaps not, but you can infer nothing from that statement except that the game might not have the visual style of the demo.  That's it.  Anything more is simply a wild guess.  And frankly, I hate wild guesses.

Amazon Offers Pre-Orders of Upcoming Wii U Titles

Sunday July 3, 2011

Wiiugo.com points out that Amazon.com has now listed 7 Wii games available for pre-order. The price for each is $49.99, with a price guarantee, which is notable because the best guess is that Wii U game prices are like to be in the $60 price range typical of the major Xbox 360 and PS3 titles.
