Will the Real Hot Dog Eating Champ Please Chow Down

Monday July 4, 2011
Takeru KobayashiJoe Chestnut may have been crowned this year's champ by winning the Mustard Belt at the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Brooklyn, N.Y. -- but he was out-eaten by someone who wasn't even in the same part of town.

Takeru Kobayashi, the one-time champ who has been exiled for his refusal to sign a contract with the organizers, gobbled down a record-breaking 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes from a rooftop in Manhattan where witnesses watched with the usual combination of amazement and horror.

Chesnut ate "just" 62... good enough for Coney Island, but not enough to break his own record of 68 or beat Kobayashi.

Major League Eating president and hot dog contest master of ceremonies George Shea attempted to spill sauerkraut on Kobayashi's accomplishment, calling it a "farce."

Kobayashi, seen here last year, was arrested after crashing the 2010 event -- and afterwards gave an interview with Ben Muessig at AOL News.

Ben was also there today as Kobayashi went dog-for-dog with Chestnut and then some today from exile.

Ironic Death Alert: Biker Dies of Head Injury in Motorcycle Helmet Protest

Monday July 4, 2011
Snake the BikerHere's a dumb way to die: A motorcyclist protesting helmet laws was killed after falling off his bike and hitting his head.

Philip A. Contos, 55 had been participating in a "helmet protest run" organized by American Bikers Aimed Towards Education when he flipped over the handlebars of his 1983 Harley, according to The Post-Standard in Syracuse, NY.

State troopers told the newspaper Contos likely would have lived... if he had been wearing a helmet.

More irony: American Bikers Aimed Towards Education has a big banner on its Web site saying it's been "Promoting Motorcycle Safety, Awareness, & Education since 1974"

I'll let that sink in for a minute.

For the record, this photo has nothing to do with the protest.

This biker, Snake, is smart enough to wear his helmet... even when he's not riding.

If I had a helmet like that, I'd wear it all the time too.

Bodypainting Masterpiece: Boobs on a Butt

Monday July 4, 2011
Boobs on a ButtI've always been a fan of bodypainting -- and this may be the greatest creation I've ever seen.

It's a pair of perfect boobs on an equally shapely butt, and it was one of the main attractions at this year's World Bodypainting Festival in Poertschach, Austria.

The event drew artists from 40 different nations... and butts from I don't know how many, but I intend to research this and let you know.

Meanwhile, you can get a better look at this piece of, um, artwork along with more images from the world's top bodypainting competitions in my special photo gallery, World Bodypainting Festival.

And while you're at it, take a look at the amazing painted flesh canvases of Body Gras.

Thrifty Thief: Cops Say Man Hid TP in His Cheeks

Monday July 4, 2011
Roger Pinkham Mug ShotI've seen a lot of dumb crimes in my time... but this one takes the TP.

An employee of the Lawrence, Massachusetts city hall was arrested and accused of stealing 20 rolls of toilet paper from his job.

When the cops got 53-year-old Roger Pinkham to the stationhouse, they realized the crime was still in progress: Pinkham allegedly "pulled six tightly folded toilet paper rolls from his buttocks and groin area"

Or maybe he was just trying to acquaint the TP with their eventual destination.

If that's not weird enough, he also gave the cops his brother's name when he was arrested... and was only found out when the brother read about the arrest in the local paper and saw his name connected to this dumb crime, according to AOL Weird News.

And that, kids, is how you get a spot in the Weird Crime Mug Shot Hall of Shame.
