Welcome to the Carroll Fellows Initiative
Established in 1997, The Carroll Fellows Initiative is Georgetown’s flagship opportunity for its most academically talented and ambitious undergraduates. The CFI helps its Fellows organize and support their pursuit of Excellence in a community of like-minded peers. Carroll Fellows value hard work, patience, honesty, rationality, curiosity and learning. They treat their college years as a laboratory in leadership. Defining themselves as thinkers who do, Carroll Fellows are successful inside the established curriculum, but they are also broadly informed, independent, and effective. In every area of undergraduate life they commit to living fully the Carroll motto: Mentis Vita Pro Vita Mundi – the life of the mind for the life of the world. After graduation Carroll Fellows pursue a wide range of challenging and rewarding careers in fields ranging from consulting and finance, to law and government, to science and medicine, to public service and diplomacy, to virtually all of the fields of the academy.
Students have only one opportunity to apply to the CFI. Interested first year students make an application in their fall semester at Georgetown and, if admitted, begin the two semester Carroll Forum in the spring. Sophomore transfer students may apply only in the summer before matriculating. If admitted, they immediately begin the Forum in the fall. Upon completion of the program, students receive Carroll Fellows transcript notation.
