“Given the growing prominence and sophistication of the U.S. Hispanic communities, we’re proud to have Nat Geo Mundo join its sister networks, the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD, to offer distinct quality programming, spectacular visuals and trusted information that characterizes all content from National Geographic, regardless of the platform,” said Steve Schiffman, President, National Geographic Networks U.S.

While many Spanish-language networks simply translate English-language content for a Spanish-speaking audience, Nat Geo Mundo programming will be predominantly a combination of shows from the National Geographic Channel in Latin America that have never aired in the U.S., as well as newly commissioned and acquired original series and specials, complemented by National Geographic Channel favorites repurposed for a Hispanic audience.  Some highlights will include “Out of This Mundo: Originals,” Latin American and global content from National Geographic Channel International’s regional networks; “Nat Geo Planet,” a block of shows that “inspires people to care about the planet” with information that specifically affects the Latino community; “Phenomenal,” a series that takes viewers inside natural disasters such as earthquakes and storms; and “Animals Amongst Us,” engaging stories about the extraordinary bond between humans and animals.  Viewers of Nat Geo Mundo will also see translations of favorite shows including “The Dog Whisperer” with Cesar Millan, “Mega Estructuras,” one of National Geographic’s all-time highest rated series featuring tours of engineering feats, such as the new congress building in Mexico City; and high-end specials like “In the Womb.”

“Nat Geo Mundo will seek to inspire U.S. Latino families in their pursuit of prosperity, by expanding their horizons through entertainment about the world that surrounds them,” said Hernan Lopez, President and CEO of Fox International Channels, who will oversee Nat Geo Mundo in addition to FOX Deportes, the top-rated Spanish-language sports network in the U.S. and Utilísima, a recently launched lifestyle network for U.S. Hispanic women.  “Nat Geo Mundo will providehundreds of hours of top-notch Spanish-language programming foratino families who want smart and innovative entertainment.”

National Geographic is one of the most trusted sources of information about the world that surrounds us.  For the past three years, National Geographic Channel has received the most Emmy nominations for excellence in news and documentaries among all ad-supported networks.  Home to some of the world’s most respected personalities, scientists, and thinkers, National Geographic inspires people to care for the planet.  And as the world’s leading organization in pushing the frontiers of exploration, it has paved the way for many of the world’s scientific discoveries.

Nat Geo Mundo has commitments to launch in more than four million homes this year through Cox, DISH Network, and Verizon FiOS. Fox Global Networks, a unit of Fox Networks, manages the affiliate sales and marketing for Nat Geo Mundo, FOX Deportes, Utilísima, and Baby TV.

“These sophisticated consumers want high-quality content, and they will not pay attention to programming with secondary production values merely because the program is in Spanish,” explained Sean Riley, Senior Vice President, Fox Networks, who oversees the distribution efforts of Fox Global Networks.  “Our goal is to create a one-stop shop for distributors that will enable them to better serve this fast-growing and crucial segment.”
