The Palestinians have called on the United States to reverse course and support their United Nations membership bid, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Wednesday.

    Regarding the article “Proposed ranking system to assess Kingdom’s universities” (The Jordan Times, July 7, 2011), I would like to say that such a system should have been formed a long time ago, because it is crucial.

    A matter of time

    According to astronomical calculations, the holy month of Ramadan is expected to start on August 1. But these calculations are not enough for the religious authorities in Jordan and many other Muslim countries to officially announce the start of the lunar month ahead of time to allow for planning.
