London: Industry Briefing intern

This is a three-month internship (which may be extended to six months), starting in April 2012, with the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Industry Briefing (IB) department.

The successful candidate will gain practical experience in the department responsible for editorial content on six subscription-only websites: automotive, consumer goods, energy, financial services, healthcare and technology. The websites provide data, forecasts and analysis of these six industries across 60 countries, including major emerging markets.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will vary depending on the editors’ requirements, but will include the following:

  • maintain and update the home pages of IB sites, particularly automotive, healthcare and consumer goods
  • spot gaps and errors on the websites and alert the relevant managing editor
  • help managing editors with research, including occasional data projects
  • research and write articles for IB sites with IB editors

The intern will keep IB websites updated accurately and with flair, and will also help complete one-off data projects that can add to the analysis offered. The Group will provide training in business writing, analysis and HTML for interns interested in a career in journalism or analysis.

The ideal candidate

  • Must have excellent English, with particular attention to grammar and spelling
  • Must have a good head for numbers and the ability to understand and manipulate data
  • Must have an interest in writing or analysis as a career
  • Must have a broad interest in business
  • Must have basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Will preferably have experience of working with HTML, although this is not essential

Salary: £1,100 per month
