Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies

Admissions

Application Guide

The School of Continuing Studies makes application decisions regularly and students are admitted on a rolling basis for all programs with the exception of the Doctor of Liberal Studies. As the priority deadlines approach, space in our master's and bachelor's programs become more limited. We encourage you to apply early to secure your place in the entering class of your choice.

Standardized test scores are not required for any of our programs, as we take a very holistic approach to reviewing applications. In line with the Jesuit tradition, we are looking at applicants as a whole person and therefore consider all parts of their application and background as part of the admissions decision. We hope in reviewing admissions files that we find students who are a good fit for Georgetown and in turn see Georgetown as a good fit for their personal, professional and educational goals.

All admissions decisions are need-blind and based on an overall view of the applicant and their match to their intended program. We consider your essay, recommendations and previous GPA, academic courses and experience as well as other documents when making a decision. The School of Continuing Studies reviews applications without regard to, and does not discriminate on the basis of, age, color, disability, family responsibilities, familial status, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, personal appearance, political affiliation, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, source of income, veteran's status or any other factor prohibited by law in its educational programs and activities.

Students can apply to The School of Continuing Studies using our online application: https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=scsgtu

After creating an account you will want to fill out your personal information then be sure to select which program you are applying to. After filling out all the required program information an applicant can then add recommender information as well.  Please note: All recommendations supplied to SCS will be considered confidential. Students wishing to view copies of their recommendations should contact their recommenders directly.  Once that is completed a student can pay the application fee and submit their application.

All required documents and items aside from official transcripts can be submitted online through our application system ApplyYourself.

Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, the earlier a student applies and submits all required documentation, the earlier they will be notified of an admissions decision.

Tips for Applying:

  1. Apply Early for the semester you wish to enroll. You do not need to wait until the official published deadline, and collecting the necessary documents (recommendations, official transcripts, writing samples) can take a fair amount of time.  All coursework completed in a higher education setting must have been earned at an accredited college or university recognized by the U. S. Department of Education (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/).
  2. Check your status. This can be done by contacting the Office of Admissions or via your online application.
  3. Focus your essay on goals, accomplishments and why this degree/program will benefit you.
  4. We are looking for a balance of academic and professional skills with motivation and dedication to succeed. Showing this through the different areas of your application will make you a stronger applicant.
