QDU History

The Queen's Debating Union (QDU), founded in the infancy of Queen's University in 1843, is committed to encouraging students from all educational backgrounds to participate in politically and socially relevant dialogue so as to foster public speaking and analytical thinking skills in a highly-inclusive, yet competitive environment.

In the past five years alone, the Queen's Debating Union has been home to North American Finalists, National Champions, Central Canadian Champions, and the most successful Canadian delegation at the World Debating Championships.

The QDU also moderates public debates and debate-related events throughout Queen's University, including assisting the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC), Canada's oldest and largest undergraduate business case competition.

Between our competitive achievements and our success in hosting numerous competitions at Queen's, the QDU has become one of the most respected debating societies in North America and the world.
