Call for Proposals: Protection of Minorities and Media Freedom in Italy

Date:
June 14, 2011

The Open Society Foundations is interested in funding work in Italy in two areas: protection of minorities, including Roma and other groups including migrants, refugees, and stateless people; and freedom of the media.

Proposals should focus on one or more of the following activities:

  • awareness raising, campaigning, and/or advocacy at the local, national, or international level, related to a specific rights-based issue;
  • research and monitoring, including advocacy activity based on research findings;
  • legal assistance and litigation;
  • development and coordination of civil society organizations.

Funding will be offered for a maximum of 12 months. In exceptional cases funding for a second year will be considered.

To Apply

Interested parties are requested to submit a 2-3 page concept note and an estimated budget. They should also give a brief description of the proposed project, including specific objectives and activities; information on the target beneficiaries and geographic coverage area; and a description of the applicant organization, and its qualifications to execute the project. Other sources of funding, or local partnerships, should also be listed, if applicable.

Concept notes should be submitted by email to Miriam Anati manati@osieurope.org no later than August 1, 2011.

The Open Society Foundations support the development of civil society–driven advocacy activities, including campaigning, monitoring, and litigation.

In 2010, 15 of these grants were awarded to civil society groups, research, and media organizations.
