The time has come for you and your campus to be a part of the 1,000 Bonners who are participating in the Bonner AmeriCorps program. The Bonner AmeriCorps network includes more than 75 campuses nationwide and addresses the domestic issues of education, human needs, the environment and disaster relief. Each Bonner can enroll in our AmeriCorps Education Award program for up to two terms.
Bonner AmeriCorps – Why now?
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engages more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet the needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. The AmeriCorps component of the Bonner program is a wonderful way for campuses to further support students participating in Bonner Scholar and Bonner Leader programs. The Bonner Foundation has received a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service to provide up to 1,000 AmeriCorps Education Awards annually.
The Bonner AmeriCorps Program provides students with three types of education award based on the amount of hours served. Each campus can choose to offer their students the following:
- 2 year – 900 hour term with an award upon completion of $2,362.50
- 1 year – 450 hour term with an award upon completion of $1,250.00
- 1 year – 300 hour term with an award upon completion of $1,000.00
Upon successful completion of the term of service, the students will receive the education award from the National Service Trust which can be used to repay student loans, pay current educational expenses and/or pay for future education at an institution of higher learning. The student will direct the National Service Trust, through an online payment system, where and how much to pay for the particular expense. The system is a paperless, fast and easy method for students to access.
Bonner and AmeriCorps – Double the Reward
The partnership between the Bonner Program and AmeriCorps provides students with a significant financial incentive as well as providing an opportunity to make enriching contributions to the community. While the financial aspect is not the primary motivation for individuals to join AmeriCorps, it does provide valuable monetary assistance as well as empowers each student to invest their time, energy and idealism in a positive and enriching experience.
