The Barclays golf tournament was shortened to 54 holes from 72 because of the threat of Hurricane Irene. The New York Mets postponed two games and the National Tennis Center will be closed on the day before the scheduled start of the U.S. Open.

The U.S. Open tennis tournament will close its grounds starting tomorrow afternoon and stay closed through Aug. 28, the day before the event is to start, because of the threat posed by Hurricane Irene.
