Revolutionaries' Flag Hoisted over Libyan Embassies in Algerian, Egyptian and Czech Republic22/08/2011 17:03:00
The Libyan embassies in the Algerian capital, Algiers, the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and Prague in the Czech Republic are now flying the three coloured flag of the National Transitional Council.
It has been reported that Libyan diplomats in Prague Monday burned a portrait of the Libyan strongman Muammar Al Qathafi and his collapsing regime’s flag, hoisting instead the rebel flag over Libya’s mission in the Czech capital.
The diplomats said in a statement: ”We continue to represent our homeland in the Czech Republic like all other diplomatic missions across the globe.” Libyan interests in the Czech Republic are represented by charge d’affaires Nuri Ghavi, while the regional Libyan ambassador Ahmed Menesi is in Vienna, Austria.
Egypt has now now also recognised the National Transitional Council s the legitimate government of Libya and has hoisted the revolutionary flag over the embassy building in Cairo.
Meanwhile, while Libyan State TV has gone off air. An NTC spokesman said that it has been taken over by the revolutionaries who are also celebrating after seizing control of the Al Qathafi army women’s officer training centre in Tripoli.
Niger has begun air surveillance operations along its northern border with Libya to monitor possible infiltration of armed groups fleeing the conflict in the neighbouring country, Niger military sources said.
Fighting and gun battles erupted in parts of Tripoli on Monday after tanks left Libyan leader Muammar Al Qathafi's compound at Bab al-Azzizyah yo confront the rebel assault that gained control of much of the capital in a battle overnight.
Many of the streets in the centre of the city - where anti-government supporters had celebrated hours earlier - were reportedly abandoned for some time during the day as pockets of pro-Al Qathafi resistance and the presence of snipers and artillery fire made the area dangerous.
On the other hand, the rebels intend to make one last push towards Bab al-Azzizyah, but it was unclear when this advance would take place. Most probably they will be strengthened by about 600 fighters who were making the crossing by sea from Misurata to come to their help.
