Welcome to the French Department at Georgetown University, one of the largest and most diverse in the United States. As part of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics of Georgetown College, we offer unusually wide-ranging opportunities for undergraduate study of France and the French-speaking world. Our program offers language learning courses and proficiency preparation at all levels, as well as general and specialized courses in literature, culture, linguistics, anthropology, professional French, and performance studies. Our international faculty includes experts in French-Speaking Canada, Sub-Saharan and North Africa, the Caribbean, and Belgium, as well as metropolitan France. The department has over 100 majors annually, all of whom are required to fulfill an Overseas Study Experience as part of their academic program. Class size is kept small to ensure individualized attention and to facilitate classroom discussion. The French Department is committed to fostering a comprehensive education in French and Francophone Studies through its varied and innovative course offerings, its distinguished faculty, and its unwavering dedication to students.
