rasjdir_campdesrefugies0203TATAOUINE (TAP) - More than 45,000 Libyan refugees are presently housed in the Tataouine region. Only 5.5 pc are staying in camps, while the rest are scattered in several cities and urban centres of the region.

Chief of Tunisian Red Crescent's regional office Slaheddine el Madani said that the region could not manage to host more refugees and meet their food needs, notably in the World Food Programme's absence.

He reminded that three health centres are open in Tataouine, Remada and Dhehiba. General practitioners in the region and the Médecins sans frontières organisation, as well as Libyan physicians, ensure a daily average of 250 medical consultations.

The Red Crescent regional official lamented the great and urgent need for medicaments.

It is to be pointed out that the Tataouine region has presently four camps under the Army's protection: they are the Dhehiba camp under the Emirian Red Crescent's supervision, that of Remada managed by the High Commissariat for the Refugees and those of Douiret and Tataouine assisted by the Tunisian Red-Crescent.
