social work homelessIn San Francisco one in four households cannot afford to provide for their basic needs such as housing, food, health care, transportation, and child care. In the Tenderloin 50% of residents earn less than $20,000 a year and are locked in a cycle of homelessness and poverty. St. Anthony Foundation's Social Work Center utilizes the network of programs within St. Anthony Foundation and navigates clients through other available services to support, stabilize, and improve the quality of life for more than 2,000 low-income and working poor individuals and families each year.

The Social Work Center's social workers are skilled professionals who utilize their intimate knowledge of the social services terrain to advocate for clients trying to address one-time or ongoing needs. Things as simple as getting a California ID to secure employment, obtaining a child's birth certificate to enroll them in school, or more complicated matters like applying for benefits or finding housing can be difficult for clients without the means for even daily stability. One-on-one counseling allows social workers to craft step-by-step action plans for client to gain and maintain stabilization.

In addition to case management, we have over 1,500 visits a year to our Social Work Center for food. After paying rent, many are forced to choose between necessities such as child care, food, and health care. Through our emergency and supplemental food program disabled individuals requiring special nutritional support, seniors, and families fill their cupboards with help from ours.

We understand that many issues of homelessness and poverty are interrelated, and we address each obstacle with this in mind; through crisis intervention, housing services, case management, and referrals, the Social Work Center is a one-stop shop for clients to achieve long-term success.
