Anybody able to provide insight regarding why we may have been rejected? We have a team, multiple posts, and I believe we meet all of the rejection requirements. I submitted a sitemap that does have some 404 errors, but other than that I am unsure what may have gone wrong.

Google News support does not provide the specific reason regarding rejection.

It is better to look at the other Google news listed websites and find out the possible reason of it.
