April 17-23
April 17, 1994: Two goals each from Hutson Charles, Angus Eve, Dean Pacheco and another from Alvin Thomas led host Trinidad & Tobago to a 7-2 win over the defending champion Martinique in the final of the 1994 Shell Caribbean Cup (now Digicel Caribbean Cup) at the Queens Park Oval in Port of Spain … It was the Soca Warriors third Caribbean crown in the last six tournaments held since 1989.
April 18, 1963: USA's New York Hungaria advanced out of the opening round of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup after holding visiting CD Oro of Mexico to a 2-2 draw in the second-leg played at New York City's Gaelic Park … Andrew Mate scored twice for the host, while Gustavo Peña and Jorge Rodriguez answered for CD Oro … NY Hungaria had won the first-leg, 3-2, in Guadalajara a month earlier (March 18), which made them the first USA club to win a CONCACAF club tournament match on Mexican Soil … The Champions' Cup run ended for the NY Hungaria when they were eliminated by CD Guadalajara of Mexico in the Second Round.
April 19, 2008: Goals by Gustavo Rosales and Ricardo Villalobos gave host Mexico its first CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship after defeating the two-time winners USA, 2-1, on the final match day of the 2008 event at Puerto Vallarta's Unidad Deportiva Municipal Agustín Flores Contreras … In an earlier encounter, Walter Torres scored the game-winner in extra time and gave El Salvador second-place in the four-team group after a 4-3 win against Costa Rica … Mexico and El Salvador qualified to the 2008 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Marseille, France.
April 20, 2004: With a game remaining to be played, host Trinidad & Tobago finished first in Group A and secured a place in the finals of the inaugural CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Futsal Tournament after defeating the Netherlands Antilles 4-3 at St. Augustine's UWI Sports Complex … The Soca Warriors closed out group play the next day with a 9-2 triumph against Grenada for a perfect 3-0-0 record … Trinidad & Tobago went on to claim the inaugural tournament title with a 5-0 victory over Guyana in the final on April 23 … Both the Soca Warriors and the Golden Jaguars advanced to their first CONCACAF Futsal Championship later in the year in Heredia, Costa Rica.
April 21, 2002: The national associations of Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten were welcomed as the newest (associate) members to the Confederation during the CONCACAF Ordinary Congress in Miami Beach, Florida (USA) … Thirty-seven CONCACAF-affiliated national associations attended the event held at the Lowes Hotel in Miami Beach under the chairmanship of Confederation President Jack Warner of Trinidad & Tobago …The 23rd Ordinary Congress also featured the following elections: Alan Rothenberg of USA, CONCACAF Vice-President - North American Zone; Honduras' Alfredo Hawit, CONCACAF Executive Committee Member - Central American Zone.
April 22.1968: Surinam's SV Transvaal opened Caribbean Zone qualification to the 1968 CONCACAF Champions' Cup with a 1-1 draw against the host RKSV Scherpenheuvel of Netherlands Antilles in the first-leg at Wilmestad … SV Transvaal won the series the following month with 3-1 triumph in Paramaribo … SV Transvaal went on to compete against Aurora FC of Guatemala in a two-game Final Round Playoff in Paramaribo later in the year … Following1-1 tie in the first match (November 27), the host won the second encounter, 2-0, four days later ... however, both teams were disqualified as SV Transvaal used three ineligible players and Aurora FC caused a fight during the match, which resulted in Mexico's CD Toluca declared champion.
April 23, 1994: For the fourth time, CONCACAF held its (19th) Ordinary and (15th) Extraordinary Congresses at the same time in New York City (USA) … Thirty CONCACAF-affiliated national associations attended the meetings at The Plaza Hotel under the chairmanship ofPresident Jack Warner of Trinidad & Tobago ... The following individuals were elected to Exceutive Committee positions: Lisle Austin of Barbados, CONCACAF Vice-President - Caribbean Zone; Canada's Jim Fleming, CONCACAF Vice-President - North American Zone; Rafael Salguero of Guatemala, CONCACAF Executive Committee Member - Central American Zone; and Costa Rica's Isaac Sasso Sasso, FIFA Executive Committee Member - Central American Zone … CONCACAF also granted full membership to theDominican Football Federation and associated memberships to Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and Turks & Caicos Islands
