WELCOME BACK! THE WRITING CENTER WILL OPEN FOR THE FALL SEMESTER ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2011. WE HAVE A NEW SCHEDULING SYSTEM WHICH REQUIRES ALL CLIENTS (EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY CREATED LOG-INS) TO RE-REGISTER AND CREATE A NEW PROFILE.

HAVING TROUBLE SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT? CHECK YOUR COMPUTER TO MAKE SURE A POP-UP BLOCKER IS NOT ENABLED.

WELCOME TO THE WRITING CENTER
The Georgetown University Writing Center is a free resource open to all enrolled Georgetown students. Graduate and undergraduate students trained in teaching writing are available to assist you at any stage of your writing process. Whether you are just beginning to brainstorm or revising a later stage of your work, our goal is to provide a collaborative center for the discussion of writing. Rather than proofreading papers for grammar or spelling errors, consultants work to help individuals improve their own critical thinking, revision, and editing skills.

How to Prepare

• Come in at least 2-3 days before the paper is due. It's hard to make more than superficial changes at the last minute.
• If you are working on a draft, bring two copies of it, one for you and one for the tutor.
• Bring the assignment sheet or writing prompt.
• If you want to discuss feedback you have received, bring a copy of the comments.
• If you have notes, drafts, an assigned text, or research materials related to your draft, bring those items to the session.

Before the session, determine what particular question or issue you would like to address during the session.

What to Expect

• Take a look at the video below to learn a little bit about how we work.
• At the start of the session we’ll ask for your input and give you a chance to help set the agenda.
• Be prepared to participate actively: to think, write, and talk about the writing that is on the page and the words that aren't yet written.
• We will treat you with respect and respond to your concerns. But because we are as interested in your long-term development as we are in your paper, we may ask you to try a new strategy. Our aim is both to help you with the paper at hand and to help you develop as a writer and thinker.

Writing Center Policies

While clients may schedule sessions up to an hour in length, we reserve the right to limit appointments to 30 minutes if other clients are waiting.

While the Writing Center guarantees you an appointment at your chosen time, we reserve the right to change your assigned tutor.

Clients who are more than five minutes late for an appointment may forfeit their appointment if other clients are waiting for a session.

Tutors from the Writing Center will distribute information about the Center to specific classes, and/or give a presentation about the Writing Center 's services through a scheduled class visit. Faculty members can arrange for a brief presentation by sending an email to writingcenter@georgetown.edu
