Case Study: B-MAP

B-MAP is one of the most visually striking functions on the Bloomberg Professional® network. It’s a geographic, satellite map–inspired way to communicate comprehensive market information.

What does it do?

B-MAP empowers you to see how events affect markets in relation to geography. It gives Bloomberg clients the ability to process world news as market events.

Anything that shows up on a satellite map can be correlated with corresponding market behavior. That includes ships carrying commodities at sea, tornadoes, volcanoes, airline flights, trains, etc.

Can I have an example?

Consider a hurricane as a market event. Through B-MAP, you can view the predicted flight path of that hurricane and discern what oil distilleries, crops, power plants and population centers will fall in the flight path. From there, B-MAP can extrapolate on the predicted price of commodities, etc., in relation to the hurricane.

What about smaller events?

For a smaller-scale example, B-MAP can pinpoint (through GPS) large freighters from China en route to deliver goods in Newark, New Jersey. If ships are late, early or on time, B-MAP can correlate their arrival to an effect on market prices.

Overview – Financial Product Sales and Analytics

Financial Product Sales & Analytics drives client demand for Bloomberg—both reliance upon and insatiability for the Bloomberg Professional® service. This core product continues to fuel Bloomberg revenue in an era of diminishing returns from technology solutions. How? Through superior client service and continuous innovation.

Sales & Analytics professionals recognize that continued client investment can only result from continued product enhancement. We do not rest on our achievements.

We nurture a healthy paranoia, an instinctual drive to increase the market-share of the Bloomberg Professional® service—even in the face of our market-leading position. Client feedback, questions and market activity continue to inspire new products, solutions and functionality.

Analytics – Welcome to one of the most client-facing roles in Bloomberg. In Analytics, we run point for client questions, supporting our full suite of solutions.

Working on the Analytics Helpdesk (or ADSK) means you are on the front line of customer support, interacting directly with clients and responding to immediate inquiries. Depending on your skill-set and the specificity of client queries, you’ll connect with clients as a Generalist, Specialist or Advanced Specialist within Equities, Fixed Income or FX/Commodities markets.

Who thrives here? Articulate, people-focused individuals. Professionals with a passion for understanding financial markets and driven by client service. People with a knack for finding the maximum benefit of any product or solution.

From analytics, you can transition in numerous different directions within the company. You could go into Terminal Sales, Trading Systems, Tradebook® and more. The best performers in Analytics often build the expertise to explore several different Bloomberg careers, in multiple departments and regions.

Sales – Some of the most influential and demanding clients in the world rely on our products and services, making our Sales role like no other. Sales is defined by the challenge, opportunity and reward of client relationships. You are the primary client contact, on the ground and in person. You will sell and support Bloomberg solutions for high-level professionals, comprehensively understanding the client’s workflow.

Financial Product Sales & Analytics Training Programs

Entry-level careers begin with an eight-week training program, during which you’ll learn all financial asset classes as well as the Bloomberg terminal. From here, you’ll join the Analytics team as a Generalist.

In Financial Product Sales & Analytics, we provide quick and efficient insights to keep our clients moving. Whether your role is in Analytics via Instant Bloomberg Chat/Telephone or in Sales onsite with a client, it will offer you incredible opportunities to make an impact.

Through Analytics, you’ll respond to client questions, sustain relationships and support our suite of solutions. Questions we field can vary from the simple "Where do I find the price of gold?" to the more complex "Please help me with pricing an interest rate swap deal where I swapped a fixed rate of 4.25% for Libor plus 50 basis points."

You’ll gain exposure to every area of Bloomberg and speak to clients in every market area. Taking it further, you’ll specialize in a particular market sector and assist clients on more advanced solutions.
