It was rather a sad start to the day when we got word that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs had passed on yesterday. Love or hate the Apple brand, one cannot deny the impact that its had on our lives, from the compact iMac PC, all the way through to the iPod, iPhone and iPad devices.
Its devices such as that, that have catapulted gaming into a more casual sector, that made the industry not only look better, but also become more acceptable and widespread.
In Other News: Sony tells us how older games need extra love, Infinity Ward and Treyarch grow distant from each other and Frank returns.
Here’s the news we didn’t do, because we were too busy raising a glass to Steve Jobs. Here’s to you Steve, and for all your hard work.
Rockstar Games is one of the few companies around that can pump out consecutive hits of well performing games that resonate well with both players and critics alike. Having become far more focused in recent years on the console market, PC ports of their popular titles always take a backseat, being released several months down the line.
We’ve seen the Grand Theft Auto series released on the eager PC market, with LA Noire and Max Payne 3 also scheduled for a debut on that platform soon. One massive hit tile that we won’t see anytime soon however, is the epic western tale of Red Dead Redemption.

For those of you that enjoyed StarCraft 2 it should be good news that Blizzard is working on a expansion called Heart of the Swarm.
This new content will focus on the events that happened with Sarah Kerrigan, after her powers as Queen of the blades were stripped from her she remains a being of great psionic power.
Will she attempt to take control of the Swarm again or does she have a new purpose?
So starting yesterday afternoon GT5 supremo, Kazunori Yamauchi, started tweeting out what we can expect in the Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2.0 update.
It was also announced that the update will be released on the 11th of October, coincidentally that’s the same day Forza 4 is released… I wonder if they knew that.
Uncharted has always had a solid multiplayer side but it’s always been the single player experience that has won it the plaudits but that may now change.
Check out the multiplayer footage embedded below and tell me that you don’t want to be able to jump across roof tops while dominating the opposition.
I think the best part for me is when you see the guy getting to the top of the ladder and then instead of automatically being pushed into a trap he has the ability to start shooting over the ledge in an attempt to clear the rooftop before getting off the ladder.
So you’re sick of zombies and couldn’t be bothered if you never play another zombie theme game again? Think again…
Capcom has just released the launch trailer for Dead Rising 2 and it’s going to take a special kind of self control not to be at least excited by this.
John Carmack, that bloke known for creating insignificant little engines for unknown games such as, I dunno… Dooms, Quakes and now Rage has said to PC Gamer in a video interview that treating consoles as equals was a big mistake and that PCs will be priority from now on.
The major issue seems to be that when they started working on Rage 6 friggin’ years ago, the technology was almost the same. That just isn’t true anymore, more after the jump.
[Guest Column by Daniel de Bruyne - Introduction by Nick de Bruyne]
Before we start, if you haven’t already — catch Part 1 where we look at emo characters and an intro to Diablo III for an old fan — and Part 2 where we look at what sort of performance is needed to run the game.
Part 3 of the Diablo 3 diary is a guest column coming to you from someone who knows Diablo far better than most of us. This person, is in fact my brother Daniel de Bruyne, who, together with his fiancee have clocked the whole of Diablo II around 12-13 times (some including the expansion packs as well) and logged countless hours squeezing every little piece of value out of the series.
He takes a look at all of the changes from Diablo II to Diablo III as well as talks us through his experience playing through the beta with the Wizard class.
The upcoming ultra-violent Ninja Gaiden 3 is shaping up nicely, blending unbelievable carnage with super cool shinobi skills. Team Ninja has already confirmed that the PS3 version will feature move functionality, meaning that we’ll actually get to go through the motions of swinging a blade on a hapless henchman, but as for the Xbox 360?
Looks like the Kinect will be gathering some dust when the adventure rolls around, but it’s not as if Team Ninja didn’t try to make use of the hands-free device.
Did Microsoft just out their next-gen console in a movie trailer? That will have to be up to you to decide but all we know is that an Xbox 720 logo does in fact appear in the latest trailer for Hugh Jackman’s new odd futuristic robot fighter, Reel Steel.
The movie takes place in 2020 and features a ton of logo placement, but GameInformer reports that an eagle-eyed reader from GI.com noticed that the Xbox 360 logo doesn’t say 360, but 720 at the 0:46 mark. So is this confirmation that Microsoft are at least going to actually go for the Xbox 720 name for their next console?
The whole idea of going to 720 and then 1080 does kinda work into the fact that those happen to also be names of high-definition resolutions… so who knows. Watch the full trailer after the jump and spot it for yourself.
A couple of weeks ago, everybody’s favourite corporate spokesperson, Kevin Butler, was seen speeding towards Sony headquarters on a jet-ski, then using a flaming crossbow to ignite a placard that read “Long Live Play”.
While no one cares about the fact that he probably burnt several floors of the building housing the massive piece of promotional teasing, the fans have been wondering, what exactly is it that Sony has in store for us? Is it God of War 4 or DLC for Little Big Planet that takes place inside of Geoff’s head?
Not quite, but maybe the following trailer will show you just how much Sony loves their fans.
You may have noticed that I’ve been doing quite the few ION posts lately. An even though there may have been a few misses, and one incident involving my drunken rage and a picture of Susan Boyle, its been pretty fun so far.
But all these bikinis are starting to become a bit tiresome, and in an effort to save myself from becoming bored with what could be the greatest fashion statement since Ursula Andress caused James Bond to utter “Shexy”, I’ve gone with a slightly more clothed, classier image, for today. After all more is less, more or less…I think. Crap, now I’m confused.
In Other News: Lara Croft and some tasteful art, gaming badasses that we never saw coming and a Battlefield 3 reality show.
Here’s the news we didn’t post, because Gavin was regaling us with a horrific tale of dental appointments. Read the rest of this entry »
The makers of the upcoming Forza 4 are no strangers to competition, with their franchise being compared to the Sony exclusive Gran Turismo every time a new title from either side is released, amongst other such similar driving games.
While the debate between fans over the better game is usually fierce, and most likely a little on the ridiculous side, Forza developer Turn 10 Studios see the competition as necessary motivation in order to deliver a better game.
I’m not sure what I find more disturbing about this advert to be honest. Whether it’s that there is an ozzie in it that I don’t dislike, or that I feel sorry for the people up north who need to live in that awful weather or that I’ve just seen some guy’s ass in a pair of gold shorts.
It’s a bit of a combination really and just to share the mentally scarring love I’ve decided to post up this trailer for Dance Central that was released a couple of months ago but that I was lucky enough not to ever see.. until now.
