GEORGETOWN ECONOMICS ANNOUNCES NEW FACULTY

Georgetown Economics Department is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Pedro Carneiro. Pedro completed his PhD at the University of Chicago in 2003 and comes to Georgetown University this Fall from University College London. Pedro is an outstanding scholar who brings expertise in the areas of labor economics and applied microeconometrics. Pedro’s impressive research record includes publications in Econometrica and the American Economic Review.

 

The Department is equally delighted to announce the appointment of Professor John Rust who will be joining the Department in the Fall of 2012. John received his PhD from MIT in 1983 and has held Full Professor positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Yale and most recently the University of Maryland. John is a pioneer in the area of structural econometrics and his work has been acknowledged by a variety of academic awards such as an Alfred Sloan Fellowship in 1988 and the prestigious Frisch Medal. He is also a Fellow of the Econometric Society.

Justine Underhill - Economics Major Wins Award

The economics honor society (ODE) Competitions and Awards Committee announced Justine Underhill one of the winners of the Outstanding Student Awards Competition for the 2010-2011 academic year. Justine graduated last May and was very active in ODE.  She secured a grant from ODE to sponsor speakers for our department. Justine was able to secure Christine Owens, executive director of the National Employment Law Project, and Esther Duflo, MIT professor in economics who wrote the book, “Poor Economics,” with Abhijit Banerjee to speak at the university.

  (Washington, D.C.) FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced today the appointment of Marius Schwartz to the position of Chief Economist in the Office of Strategic Planning & Policy Analysis (OSP). Schwartz is Professor of Economics at Georgetown University and will begin June 1, 2011. FCC Chairman Genachowski said, "I'm delighted that Marius will be joining us. He will bring outstanding economic expertise and a wide range of telecommunications experience. The Commission has come to rely heavily on the analyses of the Chief Economist and his role in building the agency's economic capabilities, and I look forward to that continuing under Marius."

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS NEW RESEARCH INSTITUTE - GCER

We are pleased to announce the creation of GCER, the Georgetown Center for Economic Research. GCER is the newly established research institute housed within the Department of Economics and setup to foster an environment of open and rigorous scientific inquiry into current economic policy issues and problems.
