And the joke is on us, in every conceivable way...

That this has been a watershed few days for SA there can be no doubt. Quite apart from the obvious reasons that led to the charging of the ANCYL leadership, we have seen some very ominous signs developing.

Not least of which is the utter disregard for law and order displayed by the protesters, as well as a manifest hostility towards the free press. Naturally, the ANCYL spin doctors, have already put down the lawlessness to, amongst others, “Agents Provocateur” Which in a nutshell means that they, and their vicious followers, are automatically absolved by reason of the machinations of counter-revolutionary forces.

Which is just so much bullshit in a country already drowning in it.

What I, and so many others find so difficult to comprehend, is just how the ANCYL expects anyone to actually take this malarkey seriously. Especially in light of the fact that the mayhem and destruction is, without a shadow of a doubt, being perpetrated by their own followers and no one else.

Malema is beginning to look for all the world, like the kid who started the fire then arrived minutes later with a bucket of water saying – “Look, I’m here to help you people put the blaze out” That this is breathtaking cynicism goes without saying. That it is also a very dangerous tactic, is obvious to anyone with even the most rudimentary grasp of politics.

Couple to the above the fact that the rest of the world is watching, and you can be sure that an awful lot of chequebooks have been quietly closed and tucked back into their respective drawers. The bottom line is that no country, or business for that matter, is going to invest in SA when we appear to be led by the very weak, feebly trying to beat off a pack of rabid dogs.

It’s like entrusting ones money to a bank that has no walls, no safe and worse, no sign of adult leadership at all.

If this summation seems overly pessimistic, perhaps one should consider the following –

What little moral leadership the ANC once had, has vanished in the uncontrolled rush for the public trough.

We have a President who is long on talk and very, very short on action. Think Sicelo Shiceka, Bheki Cele etc, etc.

We have a “Youth” league that is in real terms, utterly out of control. Whether the ANC top brass can actually do something about this, remains highly debatable.

We openly employ convicted criminals in our system of government. Madikizela-Mandela, Tony Yengeni et al.

We have a culture of denial second to none in this country. Even when someone is manifestly found to have their hands in the till, the ruling party will deny, obfuscate and deny some more. Then they’ll put the whole thing on a backburner in the hope that it will all disappear.

Acquittal through indifference, and then some.

Of course if this doesn’t work, they can always blame it on Apartheid, or the white folks. Or the tooth fairy, just never, ever, themselves.

Yet all of this pales in to insignificance, when compared to the latest, sick, almost comical utterance from Luthuli House.

It would now seem that some ANC hack cocked up vis a vis the Malema charges and the whole thing may be dismissed on a “technicality”. (The fact that both he, and his sidekicks, are pure poison, seems to be beside the point) Actually, the immeasurable damage this whole debacle has caused our country also seems to be no more than a minor hiccup, in ANC parlance at least.

How awfully convenient. Especially when you’re beholden to this sick riffraff. That includes our sad excuse for a State President, by the way, and his sidekicks.

Tata South Africa. Tata hope; and last, but not least, Tata anyone’s future in this dying land...
