Uruguay used its 3-0 win over Paraguay in the final of the 2011 Copa America on Sunday to move into fifth in the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Rankings, just released.

The competition itself had a big impact on South American teams moving up the rankings, with Uruguay (5th, up 13), Paraguay (26th, up 6), Peru (25th, up 24), Venezuela (40th, up 29) and Chile (11th, up 16) each improving after good showings at the Copa America.

Mexico (20th, down 11) went the other way after losing all three of its group stage games at the Copa America and fell out of the top 10 after moving up to ninth following its Gold Cup triumph.

Brazil (4th, up 1) went out in the quarterfinal round of the Copa America but still managed to move up one place, although there is still some ground to make up on the top three, which includes Spain, the Netherlands and Germany respectively.

The United States (30th, down 6) didn't play a match in the past month but still remains the second-highest ranked team in the CONCACAF region.

Ivory Coast Highest Ranked Among Africans

Spain, the Netherlands and Germany stayed as the top three respectively, with Brazil rising one place to fourth, despite only reaching the Copa America quarterfinals.

Ivory Coast are the highest ranked among the African Nations. They are placed 14th, followed by Egypt in 34th despite the fact that they have not played since Hassan Shehata quit as national team coach, after failing to guide the winners of the last three CAN editions under his leadership to qualify for the 2012 edition of the African Cup of Nations.

After a series of disappointing results, the Egyptian national team has continued to fall back in rank, having very recently seen themselves in FIFA's top 10.

Libya, where football right now is the least thing on the people's minds, and where the conflict is getting all the attention, hold on to their 63rd placing overall and ninth among the African nations.

The latest monthly standings will be used to help decide seedings in Saturday’s World Cup qualifying draw.
