Stone, Kendall Continue Democracy Debate at Brookings Event

On July 18, the Brookings Institution hosted a debate between Doug Kendall, the founder and president of the Constitutional Accountability Center, and University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone on how progressives should interpret the Constitution. The discussion, which was co-hosted by Democracy editorial committee chairman E.J. Dionne, built on their exchange featured in our newest issue.

In their debate, Stone and co-author William P. Marshall argued that our interpretation of the Constitution and its principles must change over time. Kendall and co-author Jim Ryan countered that progressives need to base their constitutional arguments on the text itself.
