Trailer for Conan O'Brien Can't Stop

Director Rodman Flender offers a candid look at one of the most difficult chapters in Conan O'Brien's turbulent career while following the popular late-night talk-show host on his 32-city "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour." Director Rodman Flender offers a candid look at one of the most difficult chapters in Conan O'Brien's turbulent career while following the popular late-night talk-show host on his 32-city "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour." In 2009, O'Brien took over The Tonight Show from host Jay Leno; seven short months later, he was looking for a new job. Though his split from NBC was undoubtedly painful, O'Brien did his best to keep his spirits high and his fans laughing, even going so far as to embark on a cross-country comedy tour after being prohibited from appearing on television. In this film, we see not only the public image put forward by a beloved yet embattled television personality, but also the fierce determination of an entertainer to persevere after watching his dreams go up in flames.

  1. Positive review
Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic It's hard to feel sorry for a guy who banked millions for not hosting "The Tonight Show" anymore, but it's also fascinating to see a man this compulsively driven to get back in front of people and tell jokes, to hear the laughter, to soak in the applause. 2. Negative review
Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail While a lot of geography is covered, as a concert film, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop is decidedly thin entertainment. Full review External link
  3. Positive review
Peter Howell, Toronto Star It's ... entertaining, not to mention revealing about the emotional toll exacted upon people who, in O'Brien's words, "feed their bone marrow to the wood chipper that is television." Full review External link
  4. Positive review
Ian Buckwalter, NPR Just as he promised, amazing things happen. Full review External link

Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post Meta-irony can get a guy who's still grinding an ax only so far. Full review External link
  6. Positive review
Tom Long, Detroit News Forget talk shows; Coco should keep touring and making films like this. Full review External link
  7. Positive review
Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger O'Brien admits he ended this moment in his life knowing himself a little better. We feel the same way. Full review External link
  8. Positive review
Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post Partly about the making of the stage show and partly about the anger and compulsion underlying the making of it, the movie is often very funny. And when it's not, it's revelatory. Full review External link
