Armed separatists killed at least two police troopers and injured another in an attack on a checkpoint in southern Yemen on Saturday, security sources said. The gunmen opened fire on troopers manning a checkpoint on a highway in al-Malah district of the Lahej province in the early morning attack, source said.
Police returned fire injuring five attackers, who belong to the separatist Southern Movement, that calls for the south of Yemen to secede from the north, the sources said. The attack comes one day after al-Qaeda militants killed 10 soldiers in an attack on a military convoy in Abyan province.
