The National Library was established in 1981 and is responsible for collecting, keeping and organising all national literary information. The library started providing its services to the public in April 1984. In the future, the National Library will open several branches in Abu Dhabi.
Opening Hours
The library offers its services to researchers and readers fourteen hours a day. It is also open on weekends. The opening hours are:

Collections
The collections of the library have grown to include almost 2 million volumes covering books, periodicals and manuscripts, and more recently electronic materials. The National Library contains more than 300,000 titles in Arabic and 100,000 titles in foreign languages. It provides reference guidance and borrowing services. The library has special halls for children’s books, Arabian Gulf studies, manuscripts, references and periodicals. The library is also active in publishing with over 430 titles in different fields.
The children’s library was established in 1986 in order to promote better reading habits in children as part of their development. The children’s library contains more than 15,000 titles, most of them in Arabic, English and French.

Readers and researchers interested in knowing about the latest book additions can check ADACH’s "Monthly Program". It contains news about the National Library, the latest books and periodicals arrivals as well as book reviews.
National Library Online Services
The National Library also offers several online services. Users can search the library’s catalogue online and reserve and view the items they borrowed from the National Library as well as extend the loan period.
