Undergraduate Research - Georgetown College

The Georgetown College faculty is committed to providing opportunities for students to engage in inquiry or investigation that makes an original, intellectual, or creative contribution to the discipline. Student learning is expanded when applying disciplinary methods and ways of knowing the world to original work.

Research Opportunities

The Georgetown Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (GUROP) supports College students who conduct research in collaboration with faculty.

The Carroll Fellows Initiative supports select Georgetown students in a comprehensive academic and research experience that focuses on training them to become agents of positive change in the world.

The Howard Hughes Scholars Program is open to students majoring in Biology, Biochemistry and Physics who are seriously considering careers in research or advanced graduate study. See the video below for a more in depth look at the Howard Hughes Scholars Program.

National Scholarships and Fellowships

Georgetown College students can apply for over a dozen scholarships and fellowships to conduct research in any discipline both during and after their undergraduate studies. College students have successfully competed for prestigious awards including Mitchell, Rhodes, British Marshall, Churchill, and Joseph L. Allbritton Scholarships and the Fulbright and Barry M. Goldwater Fellowships.

• In 2010, College senior Derick Stace-Naughton was awarded the highly competitive Mitchell Scholarship to study health communication at the University of Ulster.

Students work throughout the application process with faculty members, the Fellowship Secretary, and College deans on their essays, research statements, and preparing for interviews.
