Congratulations to Dr. Kam Leang for earning promotion in rank from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor.  Dr. Leang’s research interests are modeling and control of electroactive material systems, including piezoelectric and ionic polymer metal composite materials, with applications in high-speed nanopositioning, scanning probe microscopy, and bio-inspired mechatronic systems.

Professor Gordaninejad delivered a keynote speech at the 2011 Advanced Vehicles and Integration Technology (VTI) International Conference in Changchun, China, on "Advanced Suspension System for Land Vehicles." He was interviewed during the Conference by China's Ifeng News Networks on the research and development of automotive industry and related issues. [Click here to view the interview (16MB)]

Warm congratulations to Professor Henry Fu for receiving a new National Science Foundation award entitled, "EAGER: Theoretical exploration of chiral separation via microfluidic shear flows."  The work will use theoretical and computational methods to explore how geometry affects the efficiency of chiral separation in shear flows for pharmaceutical, biological, chemical, and agricultural applications.

ME Department proudly announces new faculty, Dr. Carlos Martino. Dr. Martino's research interests include include weak radio frequency magnetic field effects on biological systems and theoretical analysis of magnetic field effects of model radical-pairs.  Dr. Martino received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Professor and Chair Kwang J. Kim was recently named UNR Foundation Professor in recognition of his outstanding research and teaching achievements. Prof. Kim is an internationally known leader in the research fields of active materials and energy systems. [read more...]

Professor Eric Wang
was recently awarded a new $200K grant from Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), project entitled "Maintenance Decision Support System, Phase II".  Project co-PI is Prof. Jeff LaCombe.

The ME Department is sadden by the recent passing of Dr. Milton D. Glick, the president of the University of Nevada, Reno.  Our deepest condolences go out to Dr. Glick's wife, Peggy, two sons, and family.

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering!
