(Tunisia Live) It has been said that without a strong grounding in culture, a nation is like a stricken ship, pushed and pulled hither and thither by prevailing currents and winds. Therefore, the new Tunisia born after the revolution is striving to keep its history as fresh and authenticas possible. The former regime was allegedly known for having spent huge budgets on monuments preserving when at the same time, it has totally marginalized the International Day of Historical Sites and Monuments. This year only the kick start took place. On this occasion, Ezzedine Beshaouach and Mehdi Houas respectively ministers of Culture and Tourism and Commerce accompanied by Lilia Abidi minister of Women’s Affairs togetherwith a group of Media people, scholars, Italian, Spanish, Algerian and Moroccan diplomats visited El Kef one of most beautiful destinations in the northwest of Tunisia. The ministers stressed on the importance of protecting historical monuments and archeological sites not only to boost Cultural Tourism but also to favor the creation of new jobs.
As culture doesn’t deal with the past only ; it is also the story of how people adapt andaccustom themselves to the changes happening around them. It is about evolutionand unbroken identity. For this, the Tunisian Revolution will always be carved in El kefinhabitants’ memory and they chose to keep the graffiti and the slogans drawn on the wallsof the city by the young protesters as a reminder of what Tunisia witnessed on January 14th.
