Winter Weather Hazards

The weather can have an incredible influence on our daily lives. It affects the growth of crops and the availability of water. It dictates which regions of the world are habitable or uninhabitable. It has a direct impact on our recreational and economic activities, and can pose a serious threat to our health and safety. It can even cause us to experience physical and mental changes.

Environment Canada recognizes the importance of being informed about past, current and future weather conditions. Its weather service--the Meteorological Service of Canada--has been doing this since 1871. And that’s why, in addition to issuing regular weather forecasts and severe weather warnings, this Service is dedicated to providing Canadians with a variety of specialized products and services that enable everyone to make their weather related decisions sooner and with greater confidence.
