As final logistics for next week’s historic debate/Joint Inn of Court Event (we have members from 9 other area Inns participating!) please note:
1) Address
The address for the event is American Philosophical Society, Benjamin Franklin Hall, 427 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
2) Schedule
Here is the final schedule (please note the debate will begin promptly at 5:45 so we’ll need everyone registered and seated by then):
· Registration 5:00 5:30 pm
· Pre-Debate Refreshments and
Viewing of Historic Documents 5:00 5:45 pm
· Call to Order 5:45 pm
· Debate (Oxford Chamber Rules) 5:45 7:15 pm
· Post Debate Reception (Light Supper) 7:15 8:30 pm
3) Registration/CLE
There will be a table set aside for Temple Inn members to sign-in for registration and CLE credit (this program has been approved for 1 hour of Pennsylvania and New Jersey ethics CLE credit).
4) Parking
The following parking garages are recommended:
· Bourse Garage, 400 - 410 Ranstead Street, Philadelphia. Entrance to garage is on South 4th Street between Market and Chestnut Streets, just south of Ranstead. VISA, MasterCard, and cash accepted. Approximately 1 block walk to Ben Franklin Hall via heading south on 4th Street to Chestnut, then heading west on Chestnut to Benjamin Franklin Hall @ 427 Chestnut Street (on your right).
· The Curtis Center, 601 Walnut Street. Entrance to garage is on Samsom Street via South 6th Street between Chestnut and Walnut. AMEX, VISA, MasterCard and cash accepted. Approximately 1 ½ blocks to Ben Franklin Hall. Take elevator from garage to street level of Curtis Center. Exit center on South 6th Street side near mural. Walk thru Independence Park (Independence Hall will be on your left) to South 5th Street. Head north on 5th street to Chestnut, then head east on Chestnut to 427. Benjamin Franklin Hall on north side of street.
· One Independence Mall, 615 Chestnut Street. Entrance to garage is located on the SE corner of 7th and Ranstead Streets. Only cash accepted for payment. Approximately 2 blocks to Benjamin Franklin Hall. From 7th Street, head south to Chestnut, then head east on Chestnut for 1½ blocks. Benjamin Franklin Hall will be on right hand side.
5) Handicap Accessibility
Benjamin Franklin Hall is fully ADA compliant with accessibility via Ranstead Street. Please let us know in advance if special assistance is needed.
6) Coat Check/Storage
Please note that there is limited coat check space at this historic site. Thus, please leave all briefcases, overcoats (weather permitting) and all miscellaneous objects in your office or your car as there is limited space for storing such items at Benjamin Franklin Hall.
7) Document to be on display
The following documents will be on display in the vitrine:
· Copy in Thomas Jefferson’s hand of the Declaration of Independence
· A note from Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Franklin sending a copy of the Declaration as drafted and before revision by Congressional Committee
· Benjamin Franklin’s annotated, personal copy of the Constitution.
