England flanker Tom Croft says it is "disgusting" that people are questioning Martin Johnson's future as manager of the team.

Johnson's contract runs until 31 December 2011 and he is the subject of a Rugby Football Union review.

JOHNSON'S ENGLAND

  • Wins first game 39-13 over Pacific Islands at Twickenham in November 2008 - but they then lose three in a row
  • Finish runners-up in 2009 Six Nations, then third the following year
  • Enjoy home and away wins over Australia in 2010
  • Wins the 2011 Six Nations but denied Grand Slam in Dublin
  • Exit 2011 World Cup at the quarter-final stage against France

England's 2003 World Cup-winning captain has until Monday to decide whether or not to reapply for his job.

"The fact people are questioning Jonno being manager is pretty disgusting," Croft told BBC Radio Leicester.

Leicester blind-side Croft, 25, has been a regular fixture in Johnson's England sides and started four matches in the World Cup.

He added: "I think he [Johnson] is the ideal man for the job. I don't think any other team in the world has such a prominent figurehead. Hopefully he will decide to stick with the job."

Johnson took over as manager of England in November 2008 - and his team have won 21 of his 40 Tests in charge.

They endured a hugely disappointing World Cup, losing 19-12 to France in the quarter-finals, and being dogged by off-field controversies.
