It was a much colder day for the whole of the UK. Heavy blustery showers affected Scotland and Northern Ireland but southern and eastern parts of England stayed pretty dry for much of the day.

Although the Highlands of Scotland and parts of north-west England recorded above average rainfall, the end of the month saw temperatures peak at around 29 °C making it the warmest end to September for over 100 years.

2010 was the coldest year since 1986, and also ranked as one of the sunniest and driest.
