Union urges Qantas to compromise
Qantas management must enter negotiations with unions in the "spirit of compromise" and negotiate on job security, the head of the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association has told the BBC.
Peter Somerville said the dispute was about Qantas axing 1000 jobs and sending their operations offshore, and "seeking the cheapest maintenance, not the best maintenance".
The two parties are scheduled to meet on Wednesday for further negotiations to try and break the deadlock in the dispute.
