Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine's office has released the updated CHL manual.

After two years of waiting for a place to get clean fill, i'm still no closer to getting a range built in the back 40 ...
That was the plan anyway, when i got when my NRA Basic Pistol certification. A private range to shoot when holding classes for CCW. Since the demand for an Ohio CHL is at an all time high, my brother has graciously offered his garage as a classroom and his backyard range.

And since my 'Course Outline and Lesson Plan' is outdated, had to order some new materials today. That isn't a bad thing though, since the new Lesson Plans include a really cool slide show. Good grief, at least the 25 student packets (ordered 2 yrs ago) are still up to date ...


As soon as the updated materials arrive, class scheduling will proceed.

A day that seemed to drag on forever. Finally getting home from work, to find a big chunk of the High School football team still glued to the TV.
Several of whom were compelled to serve because of this day, and still do ...

Heading out to The American Range in North Jackson. We are going to use the 'freestyle' range to practice some drills. Need to work on a smoother draw, and presentation from the holster, while trying to incorporate some of the things learned from Tom Givens. Am also using some Crossbreed Supertuck holsters for the Pt1911 and the P95. Soon I hope to get one of Evyl Robots tuckables for the G26.

Twice!!  Doing some 'catch-up' reading this weekend, because of the rain, two stories caught my eye. The second article came via my RSS feed reader. The first one is from a facebook post. Well, not quite ... it is a result of surfing, after watching the vid posted.  

How can any responsible adult set up a situation that doesn't teach a newer shooter anything but fear? Obviously the operative wording in that question is "responsible adult". By now you know the all to familiar story of getting a young lady unfamiliar with firearms, to shoot something she has no business handling without proper coaching. And making a video of it. Then posting it ... on Military.com no less. These videos piss me off to no end !

As you can plainly see ... this was a setup for disaster.

SB17 and HB45 have both been signed into law !!

Since Ohio passed a concealed handgun law in 2004, the rules for carry have been slowly getting better. The original law that stated that your gun had to be in plain sight while in a motor vehicle was improved in 2007. It really was kind of ridiculous in that any cop could 'interpret' "plain sight" during a traffic stop. People were doing all kinds of strange things like carrying in a belly band type holster strapped around their leg to keep it in "plain sight". Thus they would have to remove the holster from said appendage when leaving the vehicle and place the handgun in a concealed holster. The 2007 improvement allowed you to conceal your gun, thus reducing the risk of a discharge while moving it from holster to holster. It also allowed for other sane ways of carrying it in the vehicle i.e. : lockable case, bag, console or glove compartment.

SB17 has fixed that. Now it is up to us to determine where and how we keep our gun in the vehicle. To me, a dedicated vehicle gun should be in a holster mounted somewhere out of plain view.

The other half of the bill deals with being able to carry in restaurants that serve alcohol. As noted before (and completely falsified in the media) most states allow this, including every state surrounding Ohio. The media, of course, choose to go with the fear-mongering tactic of dubbing it the guns-in-bars bill. Consuming alcohol while carrying IS a felony.
